Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

I do agree.

When I was young, and I was doing gigs for cash, I would watch some of the guys around me. A guy would say "I got a $50 gig, but someone offered me a $75 gig, so I gotta find a sub...

Re: Told to hit harder

Hitting hard isn't just about volume, it's about attitude.

I used to hit hard, was asked to hit harder, and got a lot of compliments on how hard I hit, and got asked to do other projects because...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

If you are in the Los Angeles area;

18" Paiste Signature Power Crash

19" Paiste Signature Power Crash

I bought them a few years back, played several times in the studio, threw out my...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

I always try to look at the big picture.

I'd done plenty of paid gigs where I wasn't happy, and not-paid gigs that were an awesome time.

Re: Is this "Unprofessional"

Even though I almost never use brushes, I generally have a pair in my stick bag.

I'm not really sure why, but they are there.

Re: How stupid is this?

I swear there are drum throne trolls who live under my drum kit and lower my seat when I'm not around.

Wow, that song is fantastic. I'm listening to the rest now.

Re: Sloppy fills

There is one song I did, floating around on the internet, where the fills were deliberately sloppy, because that's what best fit the music.

But that's not what you're talking about.

Way back...

Re: Gong-tastic!

LOL...

Just don't pull an Alex Van Halen and accidentally set your arm on fire in the process!

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

New Orleans is a fun place with great food.

Too bad Southern California is not on your list.

Re: Sound proofing Idea

So much of your success or not with this approach depends on how the town house is built.

I look at town homes as part of my living, and there are so many variables with town homes, how their...

Re: What would be your drummer nickname?

Satan.

Back in like 98 or 99, there was a review of my then band in a local music paper, and the writer said the drummer (me) looked like Satan.

I think it was meant to be a compliment.

Re: The worst gig of my life

I've played many house kits.

There was one occasion though where it was a similar thing. The house kit was on a Pearl rack, so moving anything was near impossible. It had no 10" tom, so I had to...

Re: Kenney Jones: A Small Faces Reunion in 2015

Agreed. He realized he couldn't be Moon, and so he didn't try.

Kenny was a big influence in my very young years.

Re: Ludwig Club Date NOT discontinued

I never heard of them being discontinued.

At NAMM, the only word was they weren't expanding the line into other finishes, or pushing them as a featured line.

Re: Is hard to make a living out of jazz? Are there any jobs out there?

Sure, but how many audition for each of those jobs vs actually become employed?

The fact remains the supply of drummers exceeds demand.

Re: Twisted Sister Drummer dies

Wow, 55, too young.

I was in the audience the night of the Bonham bash that they used for the picture in the article.

Sad.

Re: Is hard to make a living out of jazz? Are there any jobs out there?

It is hard to make a living out of playing music, period.

Regardless of genre.

Re: Peart - would you hang out with him?

I was able to attend one the very few drum clinics Neil ever gave back in 1992.

I was going to PIT at the time. Rush was playing two nights in a row at the same venue. So he offered the school...

Actually, second. Although Neil didn't play on their first album, he did play on the tour for the 1st album.

Re: Other songs that sound like other songs

My wife was a pre-school teacher for several years.

One thing I learned was every single traditional children's song comes down to one of three melodies.

Re: Peart - would you hang out with him?

Having read his books and such, and knowing that, for the most part, he doesn't enjoy hanging out with "fans" if, given the opportunity to do so, I would, because it's not something he would normally...

Re: Bassist Mike Porcaro Dies

I feel really bad for Joe.

Joe is such a nice man and was a great teacher back in the day.

To lose not just one, but two sons, wow, I can't even imagine.
