Re: How our perspective changes

So regarding the Japanese perspective, I guess we should really celebrate those guys then. I wonder how privileged Akira Jimbo (among other fine Japanese drumset artists) was to be able to play at...

Apparently I live a charmed life, so I will make no comment. But good luck!

How our perspective changes

Like everyone else here, I read alot about people going to eKits for the quiet practice, or guys trying to discover ways to mute their acoustic kits so they're not bothering everyone.

The other...

Re: Naked shell porn - Old school finishing.

Beautiful! Those must be for my single-headed concert tom kit I special-ordered. I know you said to not let the cat out of the bag, but I couldn't help myself ;)

Re: Keith Carlock - OMG!

That would count - along with Wailin' Smash doing his solo thing as the grand finale.
Also, Larry and I would love to come out and do some duets as a comedy team. We're practicing juggling with the...

Re: I'm having trouble practicing

So you're 15 now and you still don't have a teacher? I think it's time you go find one.

Re: Keith Carlock - OMG!

Keith Carlock is definitely one of my favorites too. He's really taken the "wait for it" moment to the extreme as he builds up in his solos, but an awesome groove monster!

Re: Brush comping question

For me I think it depends on what sounds good for the song. What you're describing might not sound good on certain tunes and at certain tempos. Others it'll fit like a glove. I'm left-handed, so...

Re: New Mapex Falcon or used Pearl Demon Drive?

I have discovered that I love the Pearl Demon Drive. When I first got it, I had this love /hate relationship with it for about a week. Once I found the way I like it to be adjusted (there is almost...

Re: EPs or Album?

I'm with Aaron here. Release single songs via the internet and create a buzz. If you want to release an EP with a small collection of songs, then just release that on vinyl. That'll get you alot...

Re: Stepping outside the box :)

I agree with Grea. You can do it, but aren't you busy enough? I commend your enthusiasm though, if you can keep more plates in the air, more power to ya!

The act is ok, although after watching...

Re: What's My Next Move?

Good advice about just getting together and talking first. Although my next project is with two guys who can totally play anything, we're in this to find out if we're going to click first. I have a...

Re: What I Learned From Roy Burns 40-Years Ago

I had the pleasure of seeing Roy Burns in 1979-80 when he was working at a local music store near me in West Covina, CA. And I knew he could play, I just hadn't known how well until I was sitting...

Re: worth it?

At this point, why not save the money, earn another $1000, and get a really nice set? It's not super-expensive, but a bump in quality would be a nice thing, wouldn't it? Or save more money and get...

Re: most minimalist kit I've seen!

Impressive on all counts. I've admired Max for years - and when he originally did the hi-hat solo, he was making his best attempt at being Papa Joe Jones - so I'm sure Max thought he wasn't doing it...

Re: worth it?

Whaddya mean? New Mexican strats are like $399. Throw in a Tiny Marshal amp for $59 and you have money left over for a strap and a cable ;)

Re: Getting back into drumming.

Any good teachers in your area you can employ for a couple of lessons? This is always touchy if I can't see what it is you're doing wrong. But it sounds to me like you just need to re-wire those...

Re: Is it just me?

Actually, I only have one set of cymbals. I just make it sound like I have alot of cymbals to choose from. I'm still only dealing with a couple of K rides, A thin crashes and New Beats. I've used...

Re: Is it just me?

Well, I didn't bring this up because I had a problem. I mention it because we have a number of threads like this, and consequently, the opinions boil down to "you have to have cymbals that cut" or...
