Re: BPM question

Slight thread hijack here.

I've been playing for 35+ years and I had lessons in school for 9 years. I still don't exactly know what cut, half, double times mean. Let's say we're playing a...

Re: Tricks for faster set up

I haven't taken my clutch off in 15 years. I finally did poke a hole through the soft styrofoam lining in my bag, but not all the way through.

I have a 50" rolling hardware bag - I only have to...

Re: Left elbow tendinitis

I have "tennis elbow" in both arms, but it doesn't bother me while playing. I play in some pretty loud bands, and I derive my power mostly from my wrists and fingers. It seems to me that if you're...

Re: Who has to play to a click or backing track live?

I'm doing it on a weekly basis now. We have backing tracks (keys, b/u vocals, some guitar) and click recorded on a dvd which I start and stop for each song. The dvd outs go into my mixer, then out...

Re: Single Hand Drumming

Just this past Friday night, I watched a drummer playing with one hand while he was filming the crowd dancing on his cellphone with the other hand (ummm ... the crowd wasn't actually dancing ON his...

Re: Will this damage my bass drum?

I have 10" tom, 12" tom, 13" crash, and 16" crash all mounted to my bass drum. No problems. Back in the day, I had the same setup, only 12" and 14" toms. No prob then either.

Re: Putting band name on kick drum head, with multiple bands?

+3 on Drumart. I've bought both the full imprinted head and the "cling-on" decals from them. The decal does cut your resonance, though. Your reso head has to be smooth. I'm currently in 3 bands. ...

Re: Country drummers!

I think modern country is basically modern rock with "twang" in the vocals. Jason Aldean's "Hicktown" kicks serious butt! Rich Redmond is one of the best guys currently out there.

Re: Learning to play well on a 4 piece kit ....

Less is less, and more is more. If you're in a cover band, you need what you need to do the song(s) justice. Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight" on a 4-pc would just be downright lame. On the other...

Re: A rear line day - mini report.

Yes, I'd definitely say it's a "wooden block", but it looks like a large flattened cowbell with slits in the sides(?). I've never seen any...

Re: A rear line day - mini report.

What is the "wood block / temple block" thingie mounted on the boom between the 2nd and 3rd toms? I've never seen that before.

Re: Using Left Foot Hi-Hat, Does It Help Improve Time?

+ (whatever number we're up to on Bermuda).
"and I'm told my meter is unbelievable. At least I think that's a compliment!" HA!

I'm not sure that I consciously lock into my left foot as a...

Re: Thanks ... I think

Not me, but our guitarist. A guy came up to him and said, "Man, you're amazing! You look like you have arthritis when you're playing!"

Re: Dillemma...what to let go of, what to keep

Simple answer ... keep everything! The last thing you want is seller's remorse.

Re: How long does your snare cord last?

I had a supra back in the early 80's, and I was going through cord like crazy. I took the drum to my local shop, and the drum tech there discovered a burr in the hoop cutout.

I noticed a huge difference in my posture after I installed a backrest on my throne. I don't lean back against it, but I sit/lean back just enough for my lower back to touch it ... to know it's...

Re: Does anyone actually like big finales?

Don't like playing them, don't like seeing them, don't like hearing them. Other than that, they're fine.

I was in your exact same situation. I had my white onyx 5-piece for about 5 years, and was ready to add the 16" floor tom. It took about 2 years to find it, scouring CL, ebay, checking...

Re: Favorite Song to Rock out To?

Right now, it's Dishwalla "Counting Blue Cars." Just something about playing that song that makes me wanna pound the crap outta them (well, you know, the chorus)

Re: Acoustic Gig

I think it depends on several factors. What gear do you have available? What are you comfortable playing? What is the size/type of the venue? What are your bandmates looking for?

I've gone in...

Re: Negotiating more money for a gig.

I can see where the times and an early flight, etc could be a problem for the guitarist, but turning down a paying gig for band practice is beyond absurd IMO.

Re: Selling my Yamaha Beech Customs. What should I ask? (pics)

Aside from lacking the money ... and the space ... and the distance between us, I'd grab them up in a heartbeat! I've wanted beech customs for years now, and I love that color. Isn't it called...
