Re: Double pedal - on it's way out.

Call us nuts, but Larry and I share the belief that for the vast majority of people, nutrition, not drugs, is the path to healthfulness.

Vitamin B-17...amazing little vitamin...comprised of a...

Re: can the quality of your throne affect your playing?

I have no proof of this but I'm guessing heel up players put more strain on their back. I don't prefer a locked throne either. If I twist, I want the seat to rotate with me. I lock my seat top down...

Re: No new info

The sound clip from the 12" tom sounds exactly like the sound clip from the 14" tom.

Re: Is this bad form?

I wouldn't even categorize it under form. That's just a choice. I do that a lot. If I can keep the ride going while I do a little filly thing, I do so because it sounds more continuous that way.

Re: Sensitive drummer?

Congratulations on hearing real, non-gratuitous compliments from respected players. I bet you feel all warm and fuzzy about that. Those are the comments you never forget. Not many things top that....

Re: Do you hear sounds or mechanics when you play?

I'm having a hard time understanding what you mean by hearing the mechanics.

Re: Tone and thin shells

We are in agreement, I worded my post wrong. I meant to say that the head sustain control can be achieved with a thinner head. My bad, sorry about that.

Re: Could have been awkward ...

Ack! I didn't mean it like that. What I meant is...Oh nevermind. I'll probably just dig myself in deeper.

Re: Could have been awkward ...

If you want to remain on good terms with your daughters, don't embarrass them in front of their friends. On the other hand, you could also use it as a bargaining chip. (You won't audition if your...

Re: hi hat opening sound

This falls under the umbrella of blending your drums to the room, the band, the song...

In some rooms, you might have to use the shoulder of your stick to hear it, other rooms you might just need...

Re: What's with the Stage Custom snare?

I have a Stage Custom snare and it sounds good. I don't use it, it's part of a kit that's on indefinite loan to a friend. Not my size either, I prefer a 6.5 or 7" deep drum, but the drum is lively....

Re: Filling space - How?

The first thought I had was, and this could be way off....OK you say it feels empty. If you recorded it and listened back, would it sound empty assuming the rest of the band was playing? If not, then...

Re: Tone and thin shells

Head sustain seems very easily controllable. It would seem like a bad idea to cut the edges to a profile where head sustain was shortened. Like Andy said, it limits options. If your tastes change,...

Re: First tuning - opinions please :)

I like the tuning. Not too low. I could even stand to hear a tighter tuning on the shallowest tom, but I'm picking nits. It might shorten the note too much. On a set with 3 - 10" toms...I would...

Re: Tone and thin shells

I believe the Peavy Radial is a 3 mm shell if memory serves. Tard is the man for Radials.

Re: Goodbye Saturns, hello Performance!

I like DW's straight shelled offerings more than the ringed ones. Just today, I heard Gerald Heyward play a set of birch PDP's, outfitted with black Remo Emporer heads, OMG I was quite impressed. So...

Re: What are your stories of when people found out you are drummer?

They wear silk lined vests with white shirts, sunglasses and cool brimmed hats, rarely, with a feather plume. Sometimes a pocketwatch with the chain. You also get the occasional thin black armband....

Re: Band leaders

When there is a task at hand (playing music for people)....most tasks are better performed when there is a "boss". Too many cooks spoil the broth. It doesn't bother me being in a band where it is a...

Re: Band leaders

Dealing with front peoples egos goes with the territory. The way I look at it, if they're happy with my playing, and their ego isn't aimed at me, then they can act however they want. This assumes...

Re: Will anyone ever write another 'classic'

Gee I hope so. Classic means different things to different people so I am sure there will not be any shortage of music that inspires.

What if no more music was allowed to happen and all we had is...

Re: Sound person as part of the band

Absolutely. Worth their weight in gold. A good sound man is a beautiful thing, the crowning touch to a band. A good light man and you got it going on.

Band leaders

Here's some thoughts on this subject. I've played in bands where the people were more or less equal onstage, swapped singing duties, and bands where there are definite leaders. I actually prefer the...

Re: Eric Harland - Live in NYC (Video)

I love seeing ego-less musicians working their craft. Pure music. You can feel the time in the room. Masterful time control and manipulation.
