Re: Mapex

Cheap doesn't always mean bad.

The Ludwig Acrolite was designed to be budget model, and yet, plenty of top studio drummers have used Acrolite on big records.

Re: First use of a click

I just always think it's funny the guy who's not known for his time keeping was the first guy to play to a sequencer on stage, that he did it well, and he did it not-quite 30 years before playing to...

Re: Daniel Liljekvist leaves Katatonia to "get a normal job that gets the bills payed"

I know Daniel has kids at home. So that's certainly a different aspect. I believe (his wife) having a new baby is why Cruz left Lacuna Coil.

Katatonia is one of those bands who aren't...

Re: Daniel Liljekvist leaves Katatonia to "get a normal job that gets the bills payed"

Ah yes, valid point, as always Derek!

I saw Katatonia at least 3 times in the past year alone, and Los Angeles is a long way from Sweeden. 3 US tours is a lot of airplane tickets (jet fuel) and...

Re: Greg Bissonette leaves Mapex

It's called the Music Business.

In which, there are two words, music and business.

If you don't like threads about business side, don't read them.

Daniel Liljekvist leaves Katatonia to "get a normal job that gets the bills payed"

It's getting hard and harder to be a fan of modern bands, as so few of them can support themselves doing music anymore.

Re: College- What do i do!! :(

Well, I'd think a scholarship to University of Miami is too good to turn down.

When I was at PIT, many of my fellow students lived cheaply. You'd walk into an apartment, and there would be tents...

Re: Playing With Backing Tracks Live

I started playing with backing tracks right around 1999. I've done in it several bands.

It helps that I've usually been the one who had control over the start and stop (usually, not always). and...

Re: rare yamaha stage custom ive bought

Agreed, they are not rare.

Very common.

The Stage Custom wasn't introduced until 1995. The first generation were made in Indonesia.

I don't recall what year they moved production out of...

They were certainly a birch mahogany mix.

And yes, Phillipene Mahogany is also called luan, and often just called mahogany by manufactures.

I would agree it's a pretty good deal with the...

Re: Rock Gigs Not Very Rock Anymore?

I saw Lacuna Coil at the Roxy last week.

Despite the fact it was a Tuesday night, drinks were flowing, and pit broke out.
It was pretty rocking.

Re: Loads of extra notes when recording MIDI drums

It's a common issue.

I don't know about Cubase, but in protools (and I assume Cubase has a similar option) you can set the "select notes" option to only grab notes with in a certain threshold....

Re: Would you uproot to go where the music is?

Yes.

I moved to Los Angeles specifically to play music, and be around more musicians, and the music business in general.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

Certainly by the end of the 80's, there was a need for something to come in. The whole spandex thing had gone from dumb to utterly stupid. It need to be blown up.

But I never bought into grunge...

Re: First tuning - opinions please :)

Given the 3 toms are all the same diameter, I'm impressed how much separation of tone you were able to get without resorting to cranking the top drum.

I just didn't get most of it.
