Re: Seeking Metal Drummer with mics

Don't insult the Smash. That man is a genius! Maybe Jenns Hannemann?

I wanted to hear the track, but I didn't want to like the page until I heard it. Oh what a vicious cycle this is. Oh well. ...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

Those look great! They look classy. You need to make a video so we can hear them ;)

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

Then I must be in that 1% of people who bought TWO DW kits and didn't like them. It definitely isn't about my not being able to afford it. I really wanted to like them but they always sounded...

Re: Vintage Ludwig & Ludwig drums

That's a nice bass drum there! It's good to see vintage things restored to be played!

Although, I think a huge set of Roto-Toms would go well with that bass drum.

;)

Re: College- What do i do!! :(

How far is far? That sounds like a really good idea especially if the schooling is already free. Get yourself a good car that's great on gas mileage and commute. Those of us in the SoCal area are...

Re: Double pedal - on it's way out.

I was unaware of the spinal tumor. This is wonderful news! Congratulations!

Although I'd start carrying around that second bass drum because it looks really cool. Especially two GURU bass...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

No worries. The way I go, I've played just about every major manufacturer's drums (strangely enough not a Sonor though), and past a certain price point they're all good. You just gotta pick what...

Re: Removing metal washers from tension rods

I think cutting them is your only choice. I saw that on some rods I purchased and the washers are kept on there!

Re: Which STEEL SNARE?

I recommend any of the 6.5x14 ones. They're all good. You'll get a nice standard sound, you can crank it up, and tune it down for that phat Al Green sound. I saw those Tama Masterworks/Artwork...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

I'll cut the guy some slack. It's ok to be zealous about your favorite brand, just please notice when the conversation goes to things like "what kind of peas do you prefer?" that's when it's...

Re: Sonor Designer or DW Collectors?

I would go Sonor for sure. But ultimately it'll be the one you like best. Any way you can play them first? I've bought new kits and discovered I didn't like how they sounded regardless of my...

Re: Playing With Backing Tracks Live

I've done the 'one man band' thing with MIDI backing tracks, and me playing drums and singing too - it's another kind of vibe you just learn how to do. I've done tracks where the band was playing...

Re: College- What do i do!! :(

Does the school have a housing department that can put you contact with other students looking for housing together? I realize you have full tuition taken care of, but you're gonna have to pony up...

That's awesome. It's like he showed up at my kit and had to flip what he could to play it ;)

Re: rare yamaha stage custom ive bought

Yeah, it doesn't matter if they're rare or not. It's a good set of gear of everything at a good price. Can't ask for anything more than that!

Re: rare yamaha stage custom ive bought

It's great to have a really nice kit to practice your trade. Very cool. Congrats on getting them!

First things first though: set your spurs on the bass drum correctly, it kinda' bugs me. They...

Go all the way and get BOTH!

I'm instigating. I don't think you need the gear either, but do what you feel is right for you ;)

Re: Drums in checked baggage?

I'd call ahead and rent a kit in the city. Just bring sticks. Rental would probably cost you about the same in baggage costs, no?

Re: Filling in badge holes on lacquered drums

I'm part of the group that would leave it alone. Any refinishing job will be noticeable done by anybody.

If you have suspension mounts on the toms, how about re-positioning those so the bracket...

Re: Pearl masters birch vs Crush ash/birch question

What people are these that said that? If you grew up in the music scene in Hollywood I'm assuming you were hanging out at the Pro Drum Shop hearing what the real pros were saying about DW drums? ...

Re: Pearl masters birch vs Crush ash/birch question

Off topic, so what were Camco using when they were making the drums? A friend of mine had some of those before they went under and I totally loved those too. He wouldn't part with them. Were they...

Just a clarification Andy - do you submit simply by posting the video to the Guru FB page? Or a YouTube link? Mail in DVDs?

Re: Good quality mid-range snares?

I would. The design has remained unchanged for almost four decades now. Parts are easily replaced if necessary. My 6.5x14 Supra was built in 1979 (original blue/olive badge - Bonham era) and I...

Re: Good quality mid-range snares?

Good point on the wood snare angle as well. If you are in the market for a wood one, these Sonor 3007 snares are also good deals and I was quite surprised at how good it sounded when I owned a 3007...
