Re: The old Pearl Exports??

All you need for the floor tom is an hour, a drill and some skill. Some floor tom legs would be helpful, too. 14" for an ISS mount is asking for trouble, frankly. The drums are very good, the...

Re: Karma - how i love thee!!

Nice on all three counts!

It's always worth being professional when it comes to other musicians. I'm really glad no bridges were burned. That's what it's all about.

Great news on the...

Re: The matching snare

Hiding behind 'opinion' arguments is a false construct. It might work in music (e.g. what you like, what you prefer) but when it comes to factual information, it falls apart. Actually, I am pretty...

Re: The matching snare

Mikel, hiding behind the 'just my opinion' clause is weak, weak, weak.

He is BURNING that ride. That's some good stuff, right there.

Re: The matching snare

i) The only person calling other people 'experts' is you.

ii) Strawman. I never said that preferring your kit snare means you are uneducated.

iii) Like it or not, some people have opinions...

Re: EGO's

I had an 'anti-ego' incident the other day, just to add some more spice to this.

I went to see a mate's band down in a dive bar. Their drummer is a guy I've known for a while and is a decent...

Re: EGO's

Billy, I think your attitude is quite reasonable. No 'ego' there. You're a working drummer that makes his living through music and you need to draw the line somewhere. You have a reputation to...

Re: The matching snare

Mikel, you're continuing to be belligerent. I'm not an 'expert' but I think it's fair to say that the knowledge of drummers on here is higher than the average drummer in a bar band. I say that out...

Re: The matching snare

Most of the kits that are sold with the snares are sold to beginner players as a 'full set'. If you go into the higher-levels of most manufacturers, they don't include a snare. Remember, the users...

Re: The old Pearl Exports??

One kit I played had 1.6mm hoops and had warped the hoops so much the kit couldn't be tuned. Major oversight there.

Re: The matching snare

Just to add as well (and others have alluded to this) that snares are a very personal choice, much more than toms - which can be tweaked to be acceptable in most situations. A snare really defines...

Re: The old Pearl Exports??

I got sick of floating floor toms a long time ago. It became a real pain. Now, all of my floors above 14" have legs. It makes everything so much easier - I don't have to worry about flying...

Re: The old Pearl Exports??

This is especially true on 14" floor toms. They're just too heavy for the ISS mounts to be a reasonable solution.

If I had an Export kit with those mounts, I'd be using a four-piece, sticking one...

Re: The old Pearl Exports??

I have an 80s Export kit (amongst others) and I think it's a great kit. There's no value attached to them so I've modified them heavily but the shells are absolutely rock solid.

I just wish they...

Re: Name that rhythm

I don't think you were out of line at all. I think it's most important to be honest. We didn't know that Ken would react the way he did - we all figured he was a big boy that could handle honest...

Re: Name that rhythm

It was a case (in my view) of having a pretty thin skin. He was a very decent guy and a good player in general. I remember that thread too and there was some fair criticism which he took quite...

Re: The matching snare

I'm not quite sure why you're being so belligerent. Have you got shares in a company that only produce snares with kits?

There are some 'acceptable' kit snares. My old snare was one of them. It...

Re: The matching snare

Not at all. Snares are much more complex and costly to produce than (for instance) tom shells, with more components and snare beds, etc. Shell production is easy for mass-manufacturers, the rest of...

Re: Bass vs. drums challenge video - released here first :)

To be fair, I think most of us were rather besotted with the waitresses. That's my excuse, anyhow.
