Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

Can't remember exactly what the song was either, but he explained it as simplistically via a series series of "BAP-ba-ba-BAP's" etc that strangely made perfect sense. Once you had the correct...

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

Everything I've ever read leads me to believe that they knew the pattern and based everything off that. They didn't count the pick up notes per se, they just knew what the pattern was meant to sound...

Re: Hearing the upbeat as the downbeat

Keep on Knockin' by Little Richard. Don't think it's a direct lift, but it's certainly the inspiration.

This is as good an explanation as I've seen:...

Re: PSA - Lubricate your P85.

I'd stay away from Tesco's lasagne if I were you. I read somewhere in The Sun that you can never be too sure what goes into it!!

Re: A REVELATION.

Hell mate, Weckl's own playing seems to be at odds with his comment.

I've been looking on youtube for examples of him playing matched since he made those comments (say, anything in the last 2...

Re: A REVELATION.

I think if you're experiencing pain, discomfort or injury as a result of what you're doing, then you revise it, adapt it, change it or stop doing it altogether. That goes for anything, up to and...

Re: Ginger Baker Reacts to Passing of Jack Bruce

Agreed. I'm just picking myself up off the floor as we speak. They've been sniping at each other forever. It is nice to see a more mellow reflection from Ginger.

Yep. Their fights have become...

Re: A REVELATION.

Know exactly what you mean.

I've certainly tinkered around with trad grip ever since my old man showed it to me as a kid, but I never fully took it to task or spent any length of practice time...

Re: Ludwig 402

A '64 402 with a serial number on the Keystone is more likely to be aluminium than brass. The old Super COB's didn't have serial numbers iirc.

Here's a pretty good timeline that seems to marry up...

Re: Good exercises to do away from the kit and pad?

Hard to argue with you on that. It does ingrain the various patterns and get the different limbs used to separation though......even if it doesn't give you the specific "feeling" of playing on a kit....

Re: Good exercises to do away from the kit and pad?

Totally agree. Any of the books with specific 4 way co-ordination exercises can easily be adapted to slapping thighs and tapping feet when away from the kit. Hands and feet don't necessarily have to...

Re: A new movie called Whiplash

Ask the usher to leave a light on and the door open. Works for my seven year old when she's afraid of the dark. :-)

Re: how to use Stick Control

What a strange turn this thread has taken. Not for beginners? Really? Have you looked at the thing? I'd argue it's the most perfect book for a beginner there is. Any idiot with a right and left hand...

Re: New Guru "Tour" series kits - details here first :)

Really like this one mate. Love the blonde and the size options are right up my alley.....and as much as I'm loathe to admit it, I'm really sold on the the "generic" look. I note the floors are...

Re: Gary Chaffee PATTERNS: Your experiences and suggestions

Dare I suggest Time Functioning Patterns as a good start point?

I'm new to this material myself....and as has been alluded to, you can start with any of the books as they're all designed to be...

Re: Pinky finger in the push pull

He's a fine hand technician and so much of what he says with respect to arm/hand/wrist/finger motion as well as general technique and stick control just makes perfect sense. He's also a member here...

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

The gear that I've bought, sold and traded over the years will attest that I'm not overly sentimental, I guess. I do have some snares, cymbals and hi hats that have been with me so long now that I'd...

Re: Gary Chaffee PATTERNS: Your experiences and suggestions

Thanks mate. I appreciate the insight. DVD ordered now too.

As an aside, I'll also throw my hat in the ring and request any info on the series that you'd be willing to put forward. Given you've...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I'd dearly love to argue the point. But after reading through this thread, I'd be hard pressed to convince anyone to the contrary. There is more than enough evidence on display here to suggest you...

Re: Cleaning a Ludwig LM400

I just use a microfibre cloth mate.

Can't offer you much help on the chrome polish I'm afraid. Never bothered getting that elaborate myself. I just give 'em a wipe over once in a while and never...

Re: Cleaning a Ludwig LM400

Totally agree.

Pitting doesn't occur because a drum is dirty........nor does is NOT occur because a drum is clean. It is a result of a breakdown in the bonding process between aluminium and...

Re: Got about 15 mins each day to increase speed... How should I practice?

I've gotta ask mate. Since I joined this forum in 2009, you've only ever asked one question.......you may have started a host of different threads on it and asked it in ever so slightly different...
