Re: Istanbul Launches 1960's Tony Williams Tribute Cymbals

I think their whole marketing of this stinks.

Tony didn't endorse the Istanbul brand.

Tony isn't here to endorse it, or defend himself from endorsing it. Using his name for commercial...

Re: What drum set is this?

The early/mid 80's version did.

The lugs changed in the late 80's.

Re: What drum set is this?

My guess is an early 80's Pearl Export that someone stripped off the wrap and refinished.

Re: Unanswered Threads

Some threads go unanswered because they could have just as easily googled that.

Some threads go unanswered becasue the op is asking for a long complex answer without taking the time to ask what...

Re: The 2 products that struck me at NAMM

Speaking of Gibson, they don't even let people into their booth unless you are an established dealer.

If you're a new dealer who wants to carry Gibson, they'll tell you to go *bleep* yourself.

Re: The 2 products that struck me at NAMM

Yes, and no.

Most drum kits sold are low to mid range kits. Good sounding high end kits comprise very little of over all drum sales.

The average kid or guy playing in basement afterwork isn't...

Re: That Erskine kit at NAMM

I have no idea.

I've heard from other drummers in the past that have moved on from DW is they felt DW had too many endorsers and they didn't stand out, or weren't able to enough attention from...

Re: The 2 products that struck me at NAMM

That was the place on Ventura, right? I went in there once. The sales man kept telling me how great the rides where and proceeded to show me all his Vinnie/Weckl fusion licks, even though I made it...

Re: DW and Gretsch

I just don't understand why. It's not just you, I've read this over and over again .

DW makes drums in Oxnard, CA. DW is an American company.

So how does an American company building drums in...

Re: What kind of Premier Kit is this?

Yeah, Olympic's are their beginner line.

The price is fair for what it is.

Re: Drum Building Zenith? Where to now?

Gretsch had a huge display of pre-aged snare drums on display last year at NAMM.

Yes, for a few extra hundred dollars, you too can a buy a snare drum that looks like it was thrown down a flight...

Re: DW and Gretsch

He was referring to speaking Chinese. They speak Chinese in Taiwan.

And the official name of Taiwan is Republic of China.

Re: DW and Gretsch

Most of the Gretsch drums sold in the last 15 years have been made in China.

Gretch USA is only a small piece of the puzzle.

Re: dumb question about keyholing

I have never heard of deliberate keyholing.

Many people won't buy cymbals with keyholes because a key hole means the structural integrity of the cymbal has been compromised, and it's a sign the...

Re: DW and Gretsch

The Gretsch/LP/Toca/Gibralter display was still in the Fender area at NAMM.

But the employees all had "Oxnard, CA" on bottom of their badge.

One long time Latin Percussion employee's badge...

Re: That Erskine kit at NAMM

Maybe I was thinking the gold one just looked yellow under the lights. It does have a yellow hue to it.

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Yes, obviously the studio version was mixed into the audio. You can hear it in the vocals.

The Whiskey's sound system isn't that great.

Although to be fair, lots of bands do this simply...

^ This.

While Tunebot's were at the Peal booth, they also had their own booth at NAMM.

The distribution deal was announced last summer:...

Re: NAMM 2015: Premier 'The Beast' Snare

I walked by it at NAMM, looked at it and thought to myself "what the *bleep* were they thinking?" and then kept walking.

It looked more like a science fiction TV show prop then a snare drum.

Re: That Erskine kit at NAMM

I saw Elvin live a few times. I'm 99% sure he was playing a Yellow Tama the first time I saw him in concert.

Re: Rockstar > Swingstar?

No.

Rockstar more or less is equal to Swingstar.

Depending the years of the kits in question, there are marginal improvements, but overall it would be a waste of money to go from one to the...

Re: Vintage stuff. Period.

Where new vintage-style kits miss is they are not history.

The appeal of vintage drums is to own a piece of history. To have something tied to a golden era of music.

Vintage cars, vintage...
