Re: why I wring my hands in aggrivation, but still bought . . .

Part of me doesn't understand the problems people have with the bits on the snares. I think the biggest complaint I hear (even from myself) is that the P-85 strainer starts to loosen while playing. ...

That's excellent Madge! Keep that up - that's what it's all about!

Re: Joe Morello: I Couldn't Play Jo Jone's Bass Drum

So in true DW fashion, I'm sure someone here will come up with "six degrees of openess". I say a true wide-open head combination would be tympani heads on both sides of the drum ;)

Re: Joe Morello: I Couldn't Play Jo Jone's Bass Drum

Yep!

There's nothing in it, so it's "wide open". Usually, with a ported head, or no front head at all, people put all kinds of strange things in their bass drums, so those are "not open". Get it?

Re: Joe Morello: I Couldn't Play Jo Jone's Bass Drum

That's why Jo is the master ;)

Well, they're both masters, I suppose.

Re: Benny Greb Language of Drumming - DVD or No DVD??

Heck - get both. It's always good to see a great player, especially if he's explaining what he means in the book. It's still not as good as a one-on-one lesson, but it's closer to the next best...

Re: How do you guys learn a song?

If I have the chance, I listen alot. That helps with the groove and the vibe. But if I don't have that luxury, I figure where the verses are, then the chorus, and a bridge if its in there, make a...

Re: New Guru "Tour" series kits - details here first :)

Hahaha! Those are really nice Andy.

However, after our many private discussions regarding the Gurus and whether or not I'd be a good candidate for them, I think I would want the very thin...

Re: Going to a Dave Weckl instensive and couldnt be more excited

If you could ask him anything, I wonder if it would be ok to pose such questions as:

"Do you prefer your peas cold and crunchy or cooked and mushy?"
"Why don't you continue to wear the mullet?"...

Re: Yamaha original Maple Custom kit - Is it worth it??

If you settled on a 4-piece kit, you could score a new Ludwig Classic Maple for under $2000. My shell pack of a new Ludwig (14x24, 9x13, and 16x16) only cost me $1800. OK - so you're going a little...

Re: Musicians Union?

You have to be a member of the union to do that gig that I do. When I calculate out that I'm actually only rocking out for 46 minutes in anonymity, but get paid for being there for five hours, then...

Re: Looking for new kit with vintage sound?

There's a couple of Roger's Big R kits on eBay that are sorta in your price range.

Re: Cajons for dummers? Scandalous?

I got to try a cajon some time ago and I just didn't get along with it. My back couldn't handle being in that position of leaning forward and down for long periods of time. Maybe if I was in my 20s...

Re: Gigged last night

That cold dew is why every gigging drummer should have a great gigging kit. I carry towels with me when I know I'll be playing outside. But usually, if there's real stage lighting, the stage can be...

Re: First time in EIGHT years.. I have drums set up at my place.

Congrats on owning the home! And having drums to play is an added bonus! My neighbors don't seem to mind if I play, but I wish they were a little louder too! A motorcycle neighbor seems like a...

Re: Hollywood Drum Show 10/18

I'll make no excuses, other than saying Saturday morning everything just seemed to hit the fan at the same time. So, no, I was not able to make it. I'm glad it seemed like a good time - I have...

Re: Just in case you forgot

That probably would! I've always loved the black oyster pearl, but when DW came out with a white oyster pearl, I felt it was missing something. TBH , I hope they don't come out with this on black -...

Hoo-rah! It could be a camo pattern, but you don't think its too light for that? If you could darken it, then maybe 😳

Sad, isn't it? They become "smash" cymbals at that point.

Re: Just in case you forgot

I saw the Ludwig monster kit in this finish at NAMM in 2013. I was drawn to it from across the convention floor!

Re: Michel Camilo on drummers ....

That Gadd guy is just brilliant. He said so much with less notes I've ever heard! And the crowd went with him.

Re: Just in case you forgot

Yeah, I noticed over the years I was getting really annoyed whenever I heard a crash cymbal and it just pierced it's way through the music, totally "over-punctuating", I suppose. Probably for the...

Re: Just in case you forgot

That pedal is my equally ancient (along with the snare) Tama Flexi-Flyer from 1976 or so. All I did to it was replace the bearings and the strap with a new Gibraltar one and it was in business! I...
