Re: Losing an eye to a hi hat rod, injury and prevention

Is this thread really a thing? I am obviously dreaming and will soon wake up back into a world where we are not really discussing this. Last time I was dreaming about the forum it was about a guy in...

Re: That moment....

Remember this, you wont be able to see anybody beyond the first couple of rows. There will be some nerves, but once you get on stage you realize that its just like any other stage and you'll be fine....

Re: Timing test

901 but somehow the very first line was all the way to the right. I think I missed the first one all together.

Very cool site. Great find!

Re: Boy, I am having a difficult time starting a new project.

I think I auditioned for a dozen bands and filled in for several more before I found a group of guys that played great music with good attitudes. In my other band the guitarist and I have been trough...

Re: Favorite throw off and why?

I really like the mag throw offs. In one of my bands I play a couple of breakdowns with the snares off. With the mag on my black panther I can use my right knee to engage the snares again while...

Re: people that look like drummers

I saw a homeless guy on the street the other day. I thought to myself, "that guy looks like a drummer."

Re: Zero practice gig..............

22 song set list for a punk band? No problem, the set will only be like 22 minutes long. I kid, I kid. I actually miss the days of playing punk. Those were the best shows.

Back on topic, the great...

Re: The kind of night that makes you wonder why you even bother

Dude, are we in the same band? This is something that happens about once a month for me. I am incredibly picky about my gear so I always make sure I bring everything I could possibly need for the...

Re: New England area Music Stores

If you are ever this far west check out Dynamic Percussion in Manchester, CT. Its a really big shop with a ton of floor space. Really good in stock selection and they let you beat on shit which is...

Re: Do you accept every gig you're offered or are you picky?

Connecticut actually has a great underground music scene. There are a couple of dozen great local bands that gig all around the state. We also have several hard working promoters that put together...

Re: Eek - where did it all go right?

Getting up on stage and "just winging it" takes far more talent than practicing for hours and playing from rote memorization. Sounds like a case of imposter syndrome to me (and I'm not referring to...

Re: Making $ playing drums

Dude, my guess is 90-95% of us on this forum do not derive our primary income from playing the drums. The responses in this thread alone are enough to confirm that.

Re: Making $ playing drums

Last year I was still in my MBA classes and I was asked to make a itemized spreadsheet for a finance class as part of an assignment. Since the subject was up to our own discretion I chose to itemize...

Re: Bad gig, good learning experience.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what you learned there Larry. It sounds to me like you are saying you should only play gigs where the situation is perfect and you can play in the same dynamic ranges...

Re: A dumb customer?

You actually hit the nail on the head. He basically rented the kit. He bought it, used it for a gig and returned it. Great way to provide a backline without using your own gear I guess.

Re: You and your practice regimen, come clean

I am in 3 bands (drummer in 2 guitarist in 1) so between rehearsals and gigs I play the drums at least 5 days a week. That being said, the only time I "practice" is when working out parts for new...

Re: Let down by a drummer with chops but no ability

As a drummer in an original metal band, I see this phenomenon every week. I came to the conclusion years ago that the faster the feet, the worse the hands. Its like guys put all of their time and...

Re: Playing covers vs. playing originals... or both?

I am with you on this. I make no money, spend a fortune on gear, play in the shittiest, seediest metal bars you can imagine in front of almost nobody most of the time. And I absolutely love every...

Re: When you're having a bad night...

I have found that being on stage is my release. Whatever happened leading up to the show goes away the minute the first note is hit. From that point on its performance time and I don't think about...

Re: Got that text last night....

Why does one guy have the ability to shut the whole thing down? If the rest of you are able to make it work, why don't you tell him to go and the rest of you stay together?

If my guitarist text...

Re: Stage Banter

This is exactly what one of my bands does. We have programmed loops that we run between a couple of songs when we change tunings. Other than that its one song into the next into the next. Our singer...

Re: Band Pay Splits

Wait a minute, there are people making money to do this? Why didn't anybody tell me?

So we evenly split the cost of playing gigs, everybody pitches in for gas, buys their own beer and loads their...

Re: How do you hear it all?

I think most of us deal with what you are describing. Cymbals tend to fuzz out everything else when you lay into them, I think its just a proximity thing. We play in some really shitty little clubs...
