Re: A kit to call my own, without starting a drum company

Thanks Bob. yes they "were" posted elsewhere. But I won't say where. Every time I turned around it's like I was being accused of advertising to start my own drum company. Which I have no desire to do...

Re: A kit to call my own, without starting a drum company

Re: custom drum companies

My suggestion is this: If you only have a certain amount of money to spend, then why take a chance on a custom drum UNLESS you can play it and hear it and feel it in advance?

If this is the only...

Re: A kit to call my own, without starting a drum company

Thank you!! Glad the videos helped. You can do it man!
I'm not sure what the bearing edges are called. Precision Drum did them. You may be able to get an idea in the 1st tutorial video where I show...

Re: A kit to call my own, without starting a drum company

I bought two 8oz bottles and didn't even open the 2nd one. Not sure what to do with it now. Lol
A key consideration is how long the dye/mixture has a chance to soak into the wood. And you don't have...

Re: How do you feel about lug gaskets?

I completely agree with Keep it simple that the difference is so minor that who can hear the difference without doing some sort of scientific side by side tests? Except in a few select situations as...

Re: A kit to call my own, without starting a drum company

Not a stupid question at all soulfly, but it is interesting how often that subject is brought up.

I may be wrong on this opinion because I've no scientific data to back it up. But my opinion is...

Re: A kit to call my own, without starting a drum company

Thanks guys!!

Never really thought of naming the finish. It is actually a purple dye over natural wood and fades to solid black. I just call it purple fade. Just loved the idea of having...

Re: A kit to call my own, without starting a drum company

Thanks Keep it Simple. I've been lurking here for awhile. Enough to know you do stellar drum work too. Congrats on your work as well!

Re: A kit to call my own, without starting a drum company

Thank you.
It's not a practice room. It's actually a paint booth I used to take the pics in so there would be plenty of light but not out in the elements.

A kit to call my own, without starting a drum company

I've been wanting one of those "ultimate dream kits" yet didn't want to buy something everyone else had. Being a creative person, I decided to buy some parts and see what I could come up with. I'd...

Re: My humble take on good drummers and OK drummers

I never thought of Mangini as a flashy player. Unless he's been playing in a sequin dress lately?

Re: Custom kit - planning phase. Suggestions?

I totally agree with Keep It Simple. Custom drums are expensive and you're lucky to resell them for anything near what you paid.
I don't want to be a custom builder but I went the Keller shell...

Re: Help! I wan't to build my own drums!

Everyone here is pretty much spot on. Try a snare first. Study, research, study and research some more before starting.

An entire kit is a huge project with a lot of time involved. There are...
