Re: Played my first Gig last night.

Another way to approach hand percussion/drumset formula. Configure your hand percussion into a drum set configuration. I own a Remo Mondo snare, and it's a wonderful addition to other hand drums.

Re: The old Pearl Exports??

Treat them well, and they should last you a long, long, time. As others have stated, the ISS mounts are not so great. Many ways to fix/work around those, however. Personally, I went with Gauger...

Re: The matching snare

I had one kit (MIJ stencil kit) that had a matching snare. Sold it 34 years ago.

Re: Opinions on what to do with these old ludwig Classic Maples?

Depends on how much work (and money) you want to throw into the project. Those shells probably have a nice maple exterior, but you'll only find that out after you de-wrap 'em. Personally, I like wood...

Re: Removing the wrap from old Ludwigs?

De-wrapping can be a real pain. In the case of your mixed years, I think 67 shells will be mahogany exterior, and 69 shells will be maple exterior. So you're gonna wind up with unmatched shells, once...

Re: what's the effect of central lugs on the sound

I've got Ludwig 3 ply Classic shells, and center lug 3 ply Ludwig Club Dates. And I seriously doubt the difference is discernible to the human ear.

Re: Searching for my first drum set

Certainly, you're not getting top line cymbals, hardware, and drums for that price. But it will get you started. Better quality means more money. Maybe your buddy can help you look for a used kit,...

Re: When Your Band Won't Gig

You're probably gonna have to find a working band to join. Guys who want to gig. Keep playing with the band you're in now, if time allows.

Re: What is my drum set worth?

Price will vary according to area (demand). Tama Rockstars on eBay can be had in the $400. They sell new, for around $500 (shell pack). Maybe $100 for the hardware, and another $100 for cymbals. So,...

Re: Broken Down Tama Royal Stars - What to do?

If you just want 'em out of your life, your best bet is probably e/Bay/Craigslist. $200 obo.

Re: How do you stabilize a virgin bass drum that jumps up and down?

I use a cheap Home Depot carpet, that the velcro (on the bottom of my pedal) grabs. Almost have to tear the pedal off the carpet. I think it's mostly a carpet issue. Too thick (being 3 ply) and too...

Re: Acrylic Drums?

I had a set of clear Vistalites (bought in 1980) that I gigged with for 20 years. Never cracked 'em. And ...... sold 'em for more than I paid for 'em. Now I have a set of red Vistalites. Again,...

Re: Looking for a snare like Lars Ulrich's (No haters please, lets keep this professional people)

The list includes "Apparently he used a metal Ludwig snare for recordings." Probably a Supra.

Re: Looking for a snare like Lars Ulrich's (No haters please, lets keep this professional people)

Here's a run of at least some the the equipment he's used. http://www.encycmet.com/equipment/larseq.shtml Just about all the name companies produce decent metal snares. Shop used, and you should...

Re: Ludwig Legacy - Classic Maple Kits

You're not really going any more (or less) pro, you're just getting a different sound. 1976 was the year Ludwig started making the thicker, straight shell. It was a 6 ply. Music (amps) were getting...

Re: Drummers around 5'6" - What size drums do you have?

If that's the direction you want to go ..... then your 2 up, 1 down, is probably gonna have to change. Or, as I posted before, move your toms off the bass drum, and to the left. Really left, if you...

Re: Who started 'here' long before they went 'there'?

I started on one of these (or like it), in 1966. Got a snare about 3 months later. Got a drum set about 2 years after that.

Re: 1965 Ludwig Club Date Black Diamond Pearl pre-purchase input

With the addition of the center mount, players kit, for sure. And $700 is a bit high.

Re: What's the oldest drum gear you own?

I have a 26x14 Ludwig & Ludwig bass drum, stamped 1940. And a 13" nickel snare, probably late 20's/early 30's.

Re: Led Zep Vs Spirit issue

You are indeed correct. "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" is a folk song written by Anne Bredon (then known as Anne Johannsen) in the late 1950s. It was recorded by Joan Baez (credited and becoming widely...

Re: Rogers Big R, why the hate??

Well, I don't know how many "haters" you've encountered. Sure ain't many here. That's a great kit, for the money. After the 5 ply, the Big R went into the XP8 era. And those were the first all maple...
