Re: Gretsch Renown Euro Pack?

man, if money wasn't so tight i'd snatch up some add-ons for my renowns. I've wanted a 16 floor and a 20 kick since I got em, but oh well.

Practice suggestions?

Hey guys, an old high school friend and I are going to start practicing drums together to try to get back into shape. We were in drumline together and our chops, control, etc. is pretty rusty. We...

Re: the Tama, Ddrum, or Gretsch.

IIRC, the Gretsch don't have maple or birch wood, and in my limited experience with those three kits in the store, I was much more drawn to Ddrum and Tama. I love the sizes of the Hyperdrives, and I...

Re: Just played a set of renowns!

Gotta jump in here, since I, too, have a 6 piece kit. I really dig mine, but am debating what tom reso heads I should go with, when the time comes. It seems like the sock reso's are super-duper thin....

'nuff said, my friend. mmmmmmmmmmmm...

Although, like gruntersdad, I'm pretty happy with mine for now.

Do you burn calories when you play? If so, how much?

I'm trying to get more healthy in my eating habits and physical activities. I was just curious if anyone has tried to quantify what kind of exercise you get from playing drums. I suppose it would...

Re: David Garibaldi

I grew up listening to TOP. When I was young I refused to listen to anything that was popular with kids my age. My dad bought me a CD player, and a TOP CD when I was 11, which was the same Christmas...

Re: Work in progress

Um...well... Gee I wish I'd have waited to get my Renowns...

Amazing deal... whether it's in CDN or USD. Can't wait to see them finished!

Re: PDP LXE or go all out with a DW Collectors?

True, but doesn't it have to do with more than just exchange rate? I thought that things were harder to get there in the first place.

Re: New Kit

During a jam session a while back, I brought a small verison of my full kit, for ease of transport and setup. I used my 22, 10. and 16. The 10 had a good enough tuning range that I just lowered the...

Re: Greetings and Question for Pearl owners

I would add that while the Rockstar isn't a bad kit, it's not really that much more professional than a Rydeen. I would give it some more time, maybe spend an extra couple hundred bucks and get to...

Re: Pearl Reference kit

I would also wait until after NAMM, which is pretty soon. After this show, many more finishes and options may be available from all major drum manufacturers.

Re: Gretsch Catalina Maple

I ran into that problem too. What a PITA, trying to get three matching, correct-sized tom arms right around christmas time at guitar center!
Check every nut, bolt and screw that is in some way...

Re: Greetings and Question for Pearl owners

I think you're dead on with the Ddrum kit you mentioned. You can get a maple Ddrum kit for that amount of money. Also, consider the Gretsch Catalina Maple. I believe they go for less than $700...

Re: tony royster on bozzio's kit

I think it's awesome considering how little time he's had on that monster compared to Bozzio. They both deserve a huge amount of respect if you ask me.

Re: Gretsch Renown Maple vrs Pearl Masters MCX

I had been looking at DDrum kits for quite a while before I found the Gretsch I went with. I really like their finishes, but I have heard mixed reviews about the drums themselves, as well as customer...

Just out of curiosity, can't you just create a tilt in the adjustments with the floor tom legs?

Sorry man, I just thought you'd be interested in my take on the Renown. Good luck with your decision! It's exciting getting a new kit.

Re: Gretsch Renown Maple vrs Pearl Masters MCX

OK, I bought a Renown Kit tonight. I'm really really excited. I feel like a 3 year old with new matchbox cars! I'm gonna go set it up and look at it (too late to play it). I'll try to get some...

Re: Gretsch Renown Maple vrs Pearl Masters MCX

My $.02:

Go to www.drumsonsale.com. This month, they're having a sale on Pearl Masters MCX kits for $1099, but you have to just click "sign up", since it's below the minimum allowed advertised...

Re: For a 5 pc what do you prefer?

I'm using a 2-up 2-down setup with 10, 12, 13, 16. I love the range I get, because I like to have a high top end, but a really deep low end. You know, the extremes catch peoples attention more. At...

Re: Gretsch Catalina Maple or Pearl Export?

Wow, I've never seen such a unanimous vote on one of these either/or posts! That said, I have an export, and am constantly wishing I had something else. It's not a bad kit, but it's just so tame and...
