Re: This forum, meeting each other

Or was. I've been clean for almost a month now.

Re: This forum, meeting each other

I've not met anyone IRL from the forum yet; I started up a thread on Pacific Northwest drummers, but before I could nail down any good dates/times for meetups, my health took a short turn for the...

Re: Wonder what these "were" before they were painted.

After you mentioned the Jazzette, I looked at the Vintage Drum Guide and yes, the kick drum might be a Jazzette - the rail does look possible as a Jazzette. And the non-inlay hoops might not mean a...

Re: Wonder what these "were" before they were painted.

I'm thinking the only thing on that kit that's actually Ludwig is the Acrolite. None of the toms are -- those aren't Rocker lugs, and the smallest tom has staggered lugs, which is a feature of...

Re: 12x10 Tom

I have a 10x12 in my 1st gen Yamaha Stage Custom. I find it tunes easily, gets a little more throat in it due to its depth, and since I have a 20" kick in that set, is just at the tallest that I...

Re: Gavin Harrison here!

Actually, to hopscotch on LBS's question: Out of all the stuff you've been doing the last few years (05Ric, PT, King Crimson), what have been your favorite songs? Any old gems pop up that you...

Re: A new drumming hero emerges!

I like soup and ice cream. Unsure about pork roast, but the way he cooks it appears so savory.

Re: Help with my son's drumming

I think a lot of fathers here on the site would be proud to have a son like yours, and a lot of drummers would be happy to have the level of parental support you are extending to your son. Good work....

Re: vintage drum gig prep

I wipe it down and give it a once over, retune the drums as they might detune a little bit more readily than modern lugs. Look for loose fittings. Other than that, not so much more than modern drums.

Re: Funnest Gig you've ever played?

The best band I ever played in, I had to quit due to my imminent move to another town courtesy of the US Army. About a month before I left, we approached the coffeehouse/wine bar where we played our...

Re: The official, "Your services are no longer required" thread

Ah, Bo... you weren't a drummer in that gig. You were just cheaper to pay than some animatronic doohickey was to maintain. They weren't applauding for you, they were applauding for the suit. Now...

Re: Post your youth pics here.

Here's me as an 18-year-old kid in 1991 playing a huge set of Ludwig Classic Maples (12-13-14-18-24x2) in Monterey, CA with my band at the time.

Re: Sold my stage customs, looking for mid range maple kit

Well, I hear they're quite rare... </sarcasm>

Are you game for any other brands, or is it down to these two? There's a lot of quality mid-priced wood out there these days...

Re: Any problems wearing both earplugs and ear muffs?

I have worn both, and I have worn in-ear monitors under acoustic muffs to get more sound isolation in the past. Nothing wrong with it at all.

Re: Possible stupid deal of the day?

Our youth band has a Rockstar kit with the 13" snare from this line, and it's decent. Not something I would necessarily pay full price for, but I guess it's what it's worth. I'm in the same boat...

Re: So why two 16s?

AFAIK he didn't really play his second 16". He tended to keep his towel there.

Re: Am I a freak for not liking virgin bass drums?

Point taken. My 3-ply Ludwig shell has a fitting for a mount that I don't use. The few times I've set a pipe in it, the whole thing loses resonance and becomes flat-sounding. On the other hand, my...

Re: Drummers who play other instruments also....

I started on trumpet and saxophone before transitioning to bass and finally drums, and most of my childhood musical training was in classical music and marches. It's been nothing but a benefit.

Re: Jason Bonham: The Last Time I Remember My Father Showing Me Anything

To have been a fly on the wall as father and son bonded together over the drums. Thanks, Fish. Just got done watching Celebration Day, which I think is the best testament yet from Jason to John. A...

Re: Am I a freak for not liking virgin bass drums?

I have mounted my toms on stands, on racks, and on the kick. I find the following:

- The kick doesn't sound appreciably better one way or the other, either in an acoustic setting, or miked up.
-...

Re: i just want one kit :/

The very best thing you can do is get one kit that will do everything you want/need a kit to do, and take care of it so that it can take care of you for years to come. This is likely to take some...

Re: Suspension/rim mounts on toms

If a drummer were to apply manual pressure to the drum, such as leaning on it or standing on it, possibly, maybe even probably (which would be true no matter what kind of tom mount). The act of...

Re: About getting paid

EXACTLY.

Ask any of the pros on this page if they would donate their time to record and mix drum tracks for anyone. They would all say no. They're pros.

I would not proceed any further on the...
