Re: Is this "Unprofessional"

I don't know man. I have never played with brushes in my life. If a band told me to play with brushes I would laugh at them and tell them to come find me at the bar when the song was over. Sounds to...

Re: The sound guy

I will be honest how the drums sound is actually really low on my priority list for FOH sound. I am a member of a band, as such I want the band to sound as good as possible. What I really want is the...

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

Preservation hall has live music just about every night so I would go check that out. Other than that, as Doug said, there are bars with music all around the French quarter. One place had dueling...

Re: Preparing for an audition

Remember, you are also auditioning them. If a band had shown up at the time the audition was expected to start only to then try and get the sound right, that would have been a huge red flag to me....

Re: The worst gig of my life

I just have one request, please post the first time you put your foot down about using the backline and are told to get bent. As a guy who has done sound for numerous clubs and festivals I will tell...

Re: Advertise your next gig here

I forgot about this thread.

Stikpin -

Sat 3/21 Cooks Café Naugatuck, Ct.

Its a typical 4 band local band bill. I think its $5 to get in. All good hard rock bands.

Re: How Does Your Band Set Up on Stage?

Check out Lo-Pan. I have seen them live a hand full of times and this has been the stage set up every time! Standing by the stage, with the bass drum at chest level it hits hard!

Re: Very excited!!!

I played in Canada once. Can I use the title until you officially take it over?

Or maybe I will go with International Drumming Sensation! Has a nice ring to it.

Re: Other songs that sound like other songs

Last dance with Mary Jane/Dani California is the first one that comes to mind.

Re: Just got home from a gig and I'm just so bummed

If you are that worried about getting the hoop to match exactly I would recommend not taking that kit out of the house. Get a gigging kit that can take the abuse and wont break the bank if it gets...

Re: How to politely and professionally quit

My only advice is to do it face to face. Don't quit via text or email, stand up look them in the eye and tell them your done. I am pretty sure every musician over the age of about 16 has been in...

Re: Do you plan your fills?

When writing original music do all of your experimenting during the compositional phase of writing. If you do the same fill every time while writing the song your band mates will expect that fill...

Re: Is live music dead?

I think the number of venues may be far less than they were when I started gigging 10-15 years ago, but the crowds are actually better. In my town there is a great live music venue that has local and...

Re: Double bill - a first for me - what could possibly go wrong?

I have actually done this before and trust me, with the exception of those people there to watch you, nobody will even notice. The one time I played a double bill it was with a house kit so I didn't...

Re: Rock albums with modern production and a great vintage drum sound

Listen to Bullhead by the Melvins.

It pretty much has to be music with some space in it. Anything with blast beats or double bass need to be more accurate and tend to have a more processed,...

Re: How many times have you been asked...

I loved when we would play corporate gigs or parties and some drunk guy would want to play. Gave me a chance to get a beer and take a break. I would usually let them go for a few songs. The crowd...

Re: Alan Dawson: How Do You Sound? vs How Do You Look?

I am absolutely shocked to hear a professional drummer say that the playing on a record is a better measure of a drummer than their live performance. I could absolutely care less what a drummer can...

Re: Anika Nilles

I am surprised every time I see one of her videos at how, well, old her music sounds. She is a girl in, I will assume, her early 20's yet she writes and plays music that sounds like it was written by...

Re: This forum, meeting each other

I was actually thinking about this the other day. I am in two bands that play gigs all over the northeast and have played with hundreds of different bands in the last few years. It seems to me I...

Re: Going to shows of a band you got rejected from a good idea?

I am going to assume that you like, and obviously know, their music. With that in mind go check out the show. There might be other bands on the bill that you can network with as well. I go to a ton...

Re: A few recording questions

I will definitely disagree with you. There are people who can get professional sounds out of two cans and a string, these kids are not them. My advice is not to worry so much about the mechanics of...

Re: A few recording questions

Dude, it doesn't have to be perfect. If you are expecting a professional sound out of this you are going to be disappointed. Let the toms ring, let the instruments bleed over into each other, make...

Re: That Tama Rockstar snare for 50 bucks

I have one from the Rockstar kit I bought some years ago and I have never really cared for it. I have kept it all these years but I rarely ever play it. Its a hard thing to pinpoint but the drum has...

Re: Funny recording experience

I have moved a snare hit or two in my days of recording. It is so much cleaner than re-recording an entire part for one hit. Unless you are recording live in a non-iso situation where your snare hit...
