Re: Making a difference - Oz update :)

Andy this is just one more reason why you can never get off my most respected list. Oz is lucky in more ways than one.

Re: Ludwig Black Beauty VS Black Magic

Just bite the bullet and get the BB. If you don't, it will eat at you until you do. Just get it over with. You won't be satisfied until you do, even if the BM is a great sounding drum. You are a...

Re: Vistalite Bass Drum tuning

It's not what you would call a "near field" set of drums. Big drums sound better far away than from the drivers seat. Make them sound good from the throne, and you killed the legs of the tone, which...

Re: No more jam sessions for me. I'm done

I was referring to the "program" you are/were running in your brain. For the goal of reversing your outlook of yourself on drums. Have fun man, you're missing all the good stuff.

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

Working for free and never getting money for that gig is totally different than working for someone for free for a while, then cashing in later cha ching. Same thing lawyers do. They take a...

Re: No more jam sessions for me. I'm done

Martin you're welcome, that's what we do here. Your issues...are pretty common. Your attitude is commendable. A lot of times the people with the issues are the last to know. Join the club. So from...

Re: Vistalite Bass Drum tuning

I'd say crank the reso high and keep it even. The even part can be tricky with wood hoops that flex all over the place. A big drum like that makes sub sonic frequencies, and tuning it higher brings a...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

This really drove it home for me. I am definitely on the side of don't work for free or it's synonym, exposure. I'll give em some exposure.

Re: Ever forgotten your hihat clutch?

I keep all my spares in my van. On the off chance I break something, screw it, I'm taking a break to fix it. I'm not hauling all spares in and out, but they are close by if I get in trouble.

Do...

Re: Vinnie,Beck, Tal, Gibbons

It seems dubbed, but at the end of the video, it seems like a live show. I think it was dubbed, it was too clean sounding of a track. But I don't really know for sure. Vinnie didn't look like he was...

Re: 15" x 8" snare - now sorted - video - 4 tunings.

Zebrano is a bright wood? I would never have guessed that. Actually your whole reply was surprising to me. I wouldn't have guessed that drum would choke out tonally, but what do I know. I think I...

Re: Told to hit harder

Funny, people get complimented for hitting hard. I get complimented for not blowing everyone out. If I hit as hard as I am able, I'd hit myself right out of a gig. Different requirements. I do agree...

Re: Have you ever rented out your drum set?

I rented a Gretsch kit I had to Charlie Musselwhite's drummer. They were playing at a place I used to jam at and the establishment asked me if I would rent my kit to him. Charlie's drummer wanted...

Re: Vinnie,Beck, Tal, Gibbons

This song was an early memory for me, Tennessee Ernie Ford of course, so to hear Vinnie completely pound the drums, was like huh? But then when Billy came in with that effect on the vocals that is...

Re: 15" x 8" snare - now sorted - video - 4 tunings.

This doesn't sound like any of your other drums.

FWIW, from my experiments, recently I came to the conclusion...and it's completely backwards...if I wanted a low tuned snare sound, I'd go with a...

Re: I've got a big one ------ &

IDK I prefer Zebrano wood for toms. Maybe it's the size but it doesn't have enough liveliness for me. I preferred it more on the higher tunings, but it's not as crisp as the maple or ash snares.

One man's opinion. There are a million of them. I'm sure he had nothing but your best interests at heart. I'd probably agree with him too. Mapex makes some warm sounding drums.

The point is, the...

Re: Methods for feeling or visualizing time?

Visualizing time doesn't happen in my head, I rely on my ears all the way, 100%. If I could, I'd close my eyes while I play. Closing your eyes frees up a ton of brainpower that was being used to...

Re: Hating your playing, sometimes or always.

Thaard, you need to break it down more. You have to pinpoint exactly what you aren't liking. Problems have to be fully identified before any work can be done on them. So what is it that is troubling...
