Re: Worth rims mounting?

Keep what you have, and save your money. The difference between what you have now, and a RIMS system, would be slight, if any.

Re: My final jazz drum set. Is it good? Anything i can improve on?

Personally, I like Yamaha 600 and 700 series hardware. That's what I have. But the Gibraltar stuff that comes with that Cat. will do in a pinch. Are you gonna be gigging with this kit? Repeated...

Re: My final jazz drum set. Is it good? Anything i can improve on?

If you're buying the kit new, think about getting a used one. I'd also opt for a 20 inch bass, instead of the 18....

Re: Ordered a Whitney nesting kit

I was at a drum parking lot sale, in San Diego, and a guy there was selling one. What a great sounding drum kit. The drums sounded rich. Really well built, and a lot of thought went into the design.

Re: Looking to buy a drum set

If you need/want a drum kit by this weekend, I'd make the drive and get the Vision.

Re: Any Rogers experts here care to take a look at this ad?

Those shells were 5 ply, maple/poplar, with reinforcement rings. It would take a lot of work, to restore those. Looks like they were painted blue. Rough finish. Throw in all the hardware that's...

Re: Bizare Ludwig Shell, help!

Another possibility is that a prior owner stained the inside. Looks like the bearing edge is also stained. 6 ply shells were maple/poplar. Both light colored woods. Looking at the holes for the...

Re: No more slave pedal please!

The Sonor, and the Off-Set (I had one of those) are both center pedals, but differ from the Sleishman in that they both use drive shafts. In essence you wind up with two slave pedals.

Re: No more slave pedal please!

The Sleishman is a double pedal (invented around 1971) that has no traditional primary side and "slave" side. Both pedals are chain drive primaries.

Re: Researching my First Vintage Kit, Suggestions Please :)

Ludwig made their own shells. Early 70's shells were maple/poplar/maple. That changed in 1976, when Ludwig went to the 6 ply shell. Before 1968, Ludwig was using mahogany/poplar/maple. The Ludwig...

Re: Ludwig Snare Find....worth anything?

My guess would be a 14x10, that was cut down.

Re: Vistalite Bass Drum tuning

OK ..... now the PS3 head is a single ply head. Built like an Ambassador head with a richie ring. A PS4 would be a two ply. Built like an Emperor head with a richie ring. Now, you've essentially...

Re: Vistalite Bass Drum tuning

One thing this guy mentions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOjhMyYqEO0 is that these (Bonham Vistalite reissue) drums sound open and ringy ..... and much different mic'd. So you do have to factor...

Re: Vistalite Bass Drum tuning

Certainly you could try the Aquarian II, but that's very similar to a Remo Pinstripe (which you shot down in an earlier post). Didn't you have a Powerstroke 3 on your batter? Maybe try that as a...

Re: Bonham amber vistalite purchase/questions

If the Powerstroke3 isn't working for you, a Pinstripe (batter) would be the next pre-muffled head I'd try. I'm not a big fan of Pins on wood shelled drums, but I use 'em a lot on Vistalite, as...

Re: Can you fix this tom?

What year, and what type of shell? I'd guess the mount is overwhelming the shell. The Swiv-o-matic and Memriloc tom mounts are both rather large, for a 10" drum. Switching to a RIMS style mount will...

Re: Just starting at 53 and will need all the help I can get!

Mehmets are great cymbals. I have 6 Mehmets, 2 Agops, and 1 pre-split. I also have 8 Masterwork, and 1 Buzin (comparable brands). Try out as many as you can, and find out what series you really...

Re: Just starting at 53 and will need all the help I can get!

Exactly. The hi-hats and the ride are typically used to propel the music. The crash highlights the music.
Istanbul is cymbal nirvana. Beware ...... once you play hand hammered Turkish cymbals...
