Re: Am I the ONLY guy that likes the sound of poplar drums?

I actually prefer poplar-shelled drums and am planning to obtain a couple more of them, either Pearl or Mapex. I thought I was the only one. Peace and goodwill.

Re: The ubiquity of smaller kits

I have played a four-piece kit since the mid 80s. Sometimes 22/13/16/snare, sometimes 22/12/14/snare, sometimes 18/12/14/snare, and for a short time 22/10/14/snare. Peace and goodwill.

Re: Ian Paice rocks!!!

He is my favorite English drummer from the 70s. To me he is much better than that other English drummer from the 70s who seems to be revered. Peace and goodwill.

Re: Steel Snares???

For my Peace 14x6.5 steel snare, I used an Evans Genera on top and a Hazy 300 on the bottom. It sounds good with a slightly muffled batter head. Peace and goodwill.

Re: 12x8 or 13x9 for single rack tom??

I agree with the majority here. With a 14 inch floor tom , use a 12 inch rack tom. With a 16 inch floor tom, use a 13 inch rack tom. For some reason I did not like using a 12 inch rack tom with a...

Re: Questions about 4 piece drum set up. What do you think?

Me too. I call that a 4x4 set. Peace and goodwill.

Re: Better to buy a used fully set up kit or go parts at a time

The best thing to do is to buy a decent used kit. Some will include cymbals. Good luck.

Re: One or two mids toms?

I like to play four drums (bass, snare, smaller tom, larger tom) and four cymbals (hats, ride, two crashes: 17" and 18"). I play open handed with the ride next to the hats. Peace and goodwill.

Re: Left or Right play?

This has come up several times since I have been on this forum. I always respond with this: most of all it depends on which foot feels better playing the bass drum. I am very left handed but right...

Re: Buying a Jazz Kit. Help Me.

I have had a Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz kit for a few years, and I really like it. I no longer have the snare, and I attached the tom mount directly to the 12" shell. I have used it in two...

Re: What kit do you use?

In our blues band, I use these:

Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz: 18x14, 12x8, and 14x14; sometimes I use the toms with a Pearl Export 22x18 bass drum that matches

Snares: Pacific SX 14x5.5, Mapex...

Re: tom mounts on cymbal stands

If possible I put the tom arm into the cymbal stand and use a clamp and the top part of the cymbal stand for the cymbal. That way the tom holder is in the center of the stand. Peace and goodwill.

Peace and goodwill.

Re: I must be a sesquipedalian

I have felt for a long time that B20 and B8 cymbals do not blend very well, especially crashes. Peace and goodwill.

Re: An Englishman in New Orleans.

I lived in the New Orleans area during most of the 80s, and my wife is from the area. Now we live about three hours drive away and go there once or twice a year. Frenchman Street is great, and so...

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

Like several of you drummers, I used nylon tipped sticks for a long time and then used a wood tip stick. I realized that I much prefer the feel of wood tipped sticks and much prefer how they sound...

Re: How do you cue your live tempos at the gig?

I sort of "hum the chorus" in my head and then count it off. I have never gotten any complaints. Peace and goodwill.

Re: Smaller thinner kicks with good sound- ideas?

I like my Gretsch Catalina 18x14 bass drum. The batter head has an Evans EQ3, and the front head is an Evans EQ3 Resonant. I also have a Evans EQ pad sitting inside touching neither head, which...

Re: Left handed question

To me what matters most is what "footed" you are. I am very left handed but am very right footed. When I was young, I always kicked a ball with my right foot. So when I started playing drums back...

Re: How much is my kit worth/what's it made of?

Those are very good drums. We would need to see more pictures in order to answer your questions. I play drums like those at church. They are some sort of maple blend; I do not remember because it...
