Re: GRETSCH BROOKLYN mediocre bad quality?

Sorry to see and hear this. I'm hoping this all comes to a good ending for you.

The Gretsch drums I have are very well made although I do not have a Brooklyn kit. I did buy some Brooklyn 302...

Re: Do we really need expensive drums?

To answer the Thread title - no, we don't need expensive drums.

But.....we want them

I have some MIJ snare drums that I like to play as much as any of my very expensive drums....and they look...

Re: What's the best things about your playing?

I'm pretty good at playing rudiments and I love to export them around the kit - fun stuff. But, I've never been 'tested' as in NARD etc. Maybe that would humble me haha. My single, double and...

Re: Steve Maxwell's Rules!

Good to hear about the service!
I've had good experiences shopping there online from Canada. I also like what I see in the Youtube videos when Steve is demonstrating drums and relating certain...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Thanks guys - yes it's fun taking a cheap old drum and bringing it back to life and playing it...once again.

Here's the Mica MIJ 8x12 in the mix - to the left of my hats - with my Purewood 6pc.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

A 60's(?) Mica MIJ 8x12 tom.

The finish is a Gingery Glitter pretty much identical to the finish that's on my 9x13 1960's Blue Foil badged Kent (made in New York State).

I know it's not rare or...

Re: Ringo Starr... Good or bad?

I've always liked Ringos playing - he can nail a song...and like has been said above....he plays for the song....very well.
He happens to be the wealthiest drummer in the world from what I've read....

Re: Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz Owners

It is possible to remove the wrap and lacquer the shells....but, you might not like what you find underneath. Not saying Gretsch uses inferior plys for their wrapped drums but if the outer ply is...

Re: Little Jazz Drumset

The Sonor kit would be the way I'd go too.....mostly because of the 20" bd that does NOT need a lift kit. Like you can probably tell.....I'm more of a Gretsch guy....but hey....it's about the...

Re: Little Jazz Drumset

You should be able to find a Catalina Club Jazz kit between $600 and $800 and if you're really lucky even less.

They are great sounding drums and have some beautiful finishes.

There are a lot...

Re: Finally Picking Up My Renowns Today!!!

The Renown Series are a good choice at the regular retail price ....let alone what you got yours for. .

Re: The Renowns are getting that much closer!

Yes! Cris p - glad to see you still have your Purewoods! That 24 must be a canon...because, I have the 22 with my 6pc (PWAM) - see my signature, and I get compliments on it all the time ...on the...

Re: Gretsch Renown Maple vs PDP Concept Maple

The $2999 price you see above for my Purewoods was the MSRP in the USA. I bought mine new at $2450 with a lower Canadian Dollar in 2007. I saw a 4pc PWAM for sale under $1500...that was a few years...

Re: Gretsch Renown Maple vs PDP Concept Maple

I've played a PDP kit - they're great drums. However, they do not compare (IMHO) to the Gretsch Renown drums and hardware. As above...the Renown drums are basically a USA Custom Gretsch kit...

Re: Buying First Drum Kit

Some of my best crash and splash cymbals, and for sure my 50's K ride, are among my very best cymbals. I have to say I'm not in a band right now and I'm not recording on them. This is just my...

Re: Sorry - here's another look at my current tools

Bo - how do you lke the 'clear' batters? Do you use them on the resonant side as well?

My Purewoods came with G2 clear batters and g1's on the resonants. I love the huge open tones. I have...

Re: Sorry - here's another look at my current tools

Look very nice! I like your remote hats....I'm going to look into that more.

Your setup looks tons of fun to play. I like Pearl hardware myself.

Re: Frankenstein kits.....mad scientists rejoice

I like mixing it up with the kits too.

Here I have a 1948 Gretsch snare drum, a 1949 24" Gretsch bass drum....I stained the 40's drums in Burnt Orange-like (matched a Gretsch swatch but did not go...

Re: Sold all my drums..now what?

Yes - Gretsch Renown are killer drums - the Purewood Series are pro grade. I have the Purewood African 6pc as you know Harry. They compare easily to my Custom USA Gretsch. I highly recommend them....
