Re: Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz - Mounted Tom

Another option.

I just removed the portion of the suspension mount that tightens down on the arm and mounted it directly to the shell.

Sounds great and I don't have the problems with tuning...

Re: Switched my gigging kit from Pearl to PDP

Hi Larry,

The PDPs, notably the CX and FS series were a great deal. I have a 2003 CX that I got for $600 new that came with a 16x14 floor tom. I have the blue onyx which is a wrap that DW...

Re: Any pre gig routine?

I NEED 10 MINUTES !!!

That's all I ask.

Swap out the snare, if it's not my kit. Jimmy the rest so it feels like my go to set up (if it's not my kit), then double check my foot, seat, hi-hat,...

Re: An attempt at a policy change here

These posts are a good summary of the whole issue. Maybe Bernhard will weigh in on this but otherwise I applaud everyone for being so "unlike" every other forum I've ever visited except for...

Re: Stage volume

I think I nailed it on this one.

The idea being let him wait and deal with it in person. Now he has used the "emails are cold" metaphor and is baiting you.

Let it sit.

Re: Stage volume

Well shit. It took me too long to reply to your post.

Your reply was good though. Now just let it sit.

Re: Stage volume

Don't reply back. Wait until you see him in person to discuss it, and only if he brings it up.

I can see right through that email. I work with people like this all the time.

His feelings are...

Re: Stage volume

Larry,

I think your email was fine. You might be pleasantly surprised and the next gig will have a better overall stage volume.

My post is dripping with optimism.

You're good at being...

Re: Where can I find this drum or its equivalent? !?!

If you're looking to purchase a Bell Brass snare then you will have to drop some serious coin. The Tama Bell Brass was made in a few different configurations. The Lars Signature snare is not as...

Re: Diggin' this clean looking Ludwig kit

I think they just look cool. I haven't got down and fiddled with them yet. At my local GC, they have a kit set up.

Ludwig is good with bringing out Deco designs to their hardware.

I am so...

Re: Diggin' this clean looking Ludwig kit

I too like this look.

The consolette style rail mount is very appealing to me.

If this were to be a gigging kit, it could be a little tricky with a case or bag for that BD.

Re: A Ludwig question

Pick yourself up an old 80's Ludwig beater BD, preferably a 20" and you'll probably have the right spurs and you can make yourself a gong tom.

Re: A Ludwig question

Hi Larry.

You know me, I'm certainly no Luddy expert on this site, however, I have heard that there are Ludwig spurs out there from the next gen period through the early 80's where the spurs were...

Re: Snare Tuning for Old Fashioned RnB

I think John's suggestion is a good start.

Something to also keep in mind though is..

.. that classic R&B snare sound was not necessarily a product of a lot of deliberateness.

At first I...

Wow. That was bizarre. Very uncharacteristic of Denis.

Everyone can have a bad day from time to time. I felt a little bad for David.

Oh well. Hopefully Denis will come back after some time. ...

Re: Practicing s-l-o-w-w-w

Yeah, I get it.

Most of our conversations take place referring to the notes played within ALL the "space".

You know, we take all these 1/4s, 1/8s, 1/16s, triplets, bars, measures, phrases and...

Maybe, both the notes and the spaces (the notes we don't play ?? [which would...

Practicing slow is very beneficial.

Our band plays covers 70% and some originals 30%.

I struggle with this issue all the time. Our two 6-string guitar players are the 'leaders" so to speak of the band. They are constantly...
