Re: More amazing Simon - "most farmer's wives in Bulgaria dance in 9/8"!

I remember he had an 18" bass drum in addition to his double 24"s, in 1998. ("Another Lifetime" album and tour).

Also, the 10" closed hat and 22" China (both right side) are gone.

Re: Duncan Phillips Drum set?

I'm guessing the tom diameters are 12",14",16" (to the left) and 18". I can say for sure that he's using two small bass drums, 18" and 20", respectively.

The finish looks to be broken Glass...

Re: Need forum wisdom (fusion "standards")

Yes, that's what I've said all along:

From 0:46 (guitar solo) it's alternating bars of 4/4+6/8 and 4/4+5/8.

This is equal to alternating bars of 14/8 and 13/8. That's 27/8...

Same as your "3...

Re: Need forum wisdom (fusion "standards")

Don't know how you can hear 3 bars of 7/4 from 0:46.

Maybe someone else would care to chime in on this one?

Re: Need forum wisdom (fusion "standards")

It's in 9/8.

From 0:46 (guitar solo) it's alternating bars of 4/4+6/8 and 4/4+5/8.
From the violin solo it's back to 9/8.

Joel Rosenblatt plays on the title track. The solo was transcribed in Modern Drummer years ago. Joel and Dave really sounded alike back then.

Re: What is this rhythm?

It's in 10/8.

You just have to tap along eight notes , hopefully after awhile you'll hear where it "turns around". It's a practice thing , I guess.
