Re: Do you ever stand back from your drums...

Re: Al Jackson jr break in Turn You Loose. . . sounds simple . . .

I gave you the written-out drum part. How is that not engaging constructively? Sorry if I unintentionally tweaked your nose, pal. :)

Re: Making Ends Meet Between Tours?

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but this is a non-starter if I've ever seen one. You don't have enough money to get there and you don't know what you're going to do once you get there.

Let...

Re: Learning a Song You Hate

You wouldn't believe the crap I had to play when I started out playing in nightclubs, crap that was popular back then. But that's how it was done, you're given the tune, you play it down once and...

Re: Buying a versatile snare

Right. With the right heads and right tuning, those are what I'd consider to be versatile snare drums. Well, maybe not an Acrolite so much.

The Pearl Sensitone snare drums are excellent and they...

Re: Buying a versatile snare

Re: Funky Buddy

So maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but to me that really wasn't funky at all. But so what, who needs Buddy Rich to have been able to play funky?

Pretty dumb arrangement, too.

Re: Which Blues drum set for an advanced beginner?

Here's a picture of about as blues a drum kit as you'll ever need to see. This is Little Walter's band, I think it's Hound Dog Taylor on guitar, Dave Myers on bass and I don't know who the drummer...

Re: ...for the jazz cats ...

Horace Silver has died at the age of 85. He was one of my true heroes as a composer and jazz visionary and founder of the Jazz Messengers along with Art Blakey.

A lot of great music this man made.

Re: Not sure if this has been brought up before...

I just now went down to smell my stool…uh, throne, something I've never done in my life (thank you, Larry). It's a vinyl covered one, and it smelled of…nothing. Maybe a bit of a vinyl smell, maybe. ...

Re: Is the music industry dead or dying?

What was the music industry is gone, never to be seen again, and now a whole new kind of music industry is being created right before our eyes.

Re: A thought about definitions

Confused about what Pop music is. Come on.

You've heard of Michael Jackson, of course you have. His music was pop music. In fact, he was the "King of Pop." The Carpenters played pop music. Boy...

Re: What was the name of your first bands?

The first band I was in, I was 15 and it was a horn band that played soul music, was called the "Immediate Children of Fate." We did "My Girl" and "Get Ready", stuff like that.
