Re: 22x20 kick playability

A couple of things aren't adding up. Now this is just a theory...but I'm pretty sure I get the beater off the head before any bounceback of the air column. I don't rely on the air column to get my...

Re: Who does this, really?

My personal possessions...it's the one and only thing in my life that are below me lol. And yes I pull rank lol. Everything and everybody else in my life....I have to treat with kid gloves 24/7/365....

Re: Mary O- Update

Yes thanks Iain. I wasn't expecting to actually hear from her but it's looking good. I'd love to hear from her. Iain, if you talk to her, tell her I, and a lot of others, miss her and miss her. The...

Re: 22x20 kick playability

IDK, I played a 22 dia x 20 depth DW for about 4 years. I rebound the beater fully so it makes no difference what the depth is as far as feel goes IMO. Some people don't like kicks that deep (Caddy...

Re: Let's talk about THIS Vinnie video

It sounds like a stream of consciousness thing going on to me. Just my impression, I really can't pretend I know what's going on in Vinnie's head. There seems to be a sense of time that ties most of...

Re: Simon Phillips talks 'bout open handed, dynamics, big sound and recording :)

I was a bit surprised by that too Jeff. The fill did sound better without the bass drum. I wonder if he uses that same approach playing live. I got the impression that was just a studio tactic, but I...

Re: Missing posts-What happened?

Bernhard explained that it was necessary to delete the last 5 days worth of posts. I think PMs got included in that hot mess too.

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - Guru results, Bermuda's Review!

Jon you really need to try a die cast or at least a metal hoop on that drum. it's really a completely different animal with metal hoops. Even Andy uses metal hoops on his personal Guru snares. Those...

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - The/our results!

Way to go Andy! Out of the 3 winning drums shown, the Guru outclasses the other 2 by a large margin. I hate to say it because they look so beautiful....and they sound so woody on toms...but for the...

Re: Sonor Safari or Bop

Another vote for the Players kit. 20 x 12 is a great bass drum size. It seems really small, like a toy set, but it sounds pro. The wrap looks way classier than it's price suggests. I can fit myself...

Re: Who does this, really?

I've done about 350 gigs since going caseless. That's a lot of packing and unpacking. That's about 58 hours of work figuring 10 minutes a gig to unpack, store cases, retrieve cases and repack. 58...

Re: Who does this, really?

Cases complicate things too much for me. Not worth my time. My gig drums cost me less than 500. They serve me, I serve the music.

I will say that the only real damage I've suffered for the last...

Re: Putting band name on kick drum head, with multiple bands?

Get a white coated ambassador. It's like a movie screen. Project band name on it with a projector. Not too serious about that.

Vinyl clingys are probably the best way to go. Circular sheets of...

Re: Band members with bad timing

I thought it was a band situation too. Yea, not much you can do there. You have the right attitude. Keep going. You're learning a crap ton of stuff. The best thing you can do in that situation is...

Re: Band members with bad timing

That's the key word right there, flow. An even flow feels so good. Not a jerky flow. A smooth pour. It's really meter, but flow is a much more human way to think of it.

I saw a band do Charlie...

Re: Band members with bad timing

Record your sessions and try to get then to listen back and discuss. If the person in question hears for themselves...it might be easier to deal with. Perhaps try and plant the notion that musical...

Re: I think I'm losing it

Or you could experiment with finding just the right amount of helium to suck in every so often.

Plus here's always autotune. Getting close is good enough.

Sorry. Trying to think outside the...

Wow Barry epic post. Andy what you say makes sense in real world applications. I have to try and see if I hear a difference with soft hits now.

This is some complicated physical behavior being...

Re: Special Bubinga

The tone of that drums really tics my boxes. Beautiful work man. The lugs are something. The whole drum is something. Great tone. Much respect.

Are you keeping it or selling?

Madge I totally get that you were in a bit of a shock when you encountered this. I guess that's a good thing because it means you don't encounter it all the time. But yes, in the future, if you are...

That is where you don't let him get away with it because you know all the tricks. Just laughing at him would get the message across. What a great segue for you to say just how pathetic he sounds, and...

IMO the things that were thrown your way Madge....could have been stopped dead in it's tracks by you slicing and dicing your attackers with your cutting wit, and your superior word chops. Meaning...

Re: Is it OK to talk about the movie "Whiplash" yet?

Fletcher's is one of the 2 extremes it seems. The other being "everybody gets a trophy" mindset. While Fletcher's tactics can motivate certain people, I find that most people do better when they are...
