Re: Yay - after changing focus and making an informed decision....

Been there, done that - LOL

Not bad. It just might work.
What color though?

I started thinking before I got too crazy with it, I'd just plug and wrap.
But if I'm going to be keeping it...

Re: Want to change my heads

That's pretty much the standard. You've probably looked around here, right?:

Those are single ply. If you want a little shorter...

Re: 2 rack toms vs 2 floor toms

Standard two up mounted on bass drum, and one floor tom works for me.

Re: Yay - after changing focus and making an informed decision....

Ya - the holes. Instead of a problem, they might be an opportunity to get a little creative.
How about some leather lacing. Maybe some chrome spiked nuts/bolts.
Maybe some multi colored plugs. ...

Re: Ludwig Centennial line

Well - I don't play gigs.

That said, I like a 5 piece kit. I currently have three 5 piece kits.

One started out as a 4 piece, but I just couldn't get used to it, and made it a 5.
Old habits...

Re: Anybody seen these yet?

Would you happen to have a link for that? I don't see anything near those prices: https://www.google.com/search?q=wood+hoops+for+a+drum+set&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Re: Ludwig Centennial line

I tried a Hipgig set at GC - very nice.

Never got to try the Centennials though.

Re: Just saw "The Wrecking Crew" movie

Ha ha - until I joined this forum, the only wrecking crew I knew of was the Harley race team from the 1920's:

"....It is believed that the term "hog," in referring to a Harley-Davidson®...

Re: Ludwig Centennial line

Price wise, it's gotta' be the old demand thing. I think more people use a 24 than a 26.

Which one are you considering?

Re: Yay - after changing focus and making an informed decision....

Ya - for me, it's all just for fun anyways.

I'd like to get back to Ludwig.
There's a Classic Maple set that caught my eye, but it's a little pricey compared to the stuff I've been using....

Yay - after changing focus and making an informed decision....

I didn't chicken out.
I cut down the Yamaha stage custom bop kit and gave it 8 lugs.

5 piece bop kits just get no respect at all.
You can barely find them, and they're all beginner level. ...

Re: would you buy a ludwig accent drum set...

I bought an Accent bass drum that I stripped for parts. I should have kept it whole. It was an excellent sounding bass drum - very nice. Just not my size.

Don't know about troll, but I'm...

Re: I Chickened Out

Ya - I made an informed decision and changed focus.
That wouldn't make a very good thread title though_LOL.

The 6 lugs tune up easy, save a little weight, and sound just fine.
They just don't...

Re: would you buy a ludwig accent drum set...

Ha ha ha - Oh look - here's a good deal. An $85 drum set. I think I'll get it.

Wait! Here's another one.

Oh man - here's another one.

10 or 20 $85 dollar kits later, you're sleeping...

I Chickened Out

Stripped a couple of bass drums and was going to cut them and drill different lug holes.
A 17" deep Stage Custom that I was going to cut down, and a 6 lug 18 x 15 Stage Custom.
The 6 lugs never...

Re: would you buy a ludwig accent drum set...

Buy it for $85, put new heads on it, play it for as long as you need to,
then sell it to someone who could really benefit from it for $50.
What goes around, comes around.

Re: tama superaluminum chrome over alum too bright!

Try the canopus vintage wires on your Tama.
If you don't like them on there, but them back on your Acrolite.

Re: I'm a jaded music industry guy

Your marching snare sounds like a woodpecker - yeah baby!

LOL

Nice chops and groove though.

LP Raw

Some strange new stuff from LP: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/lp-raw?icid=208728

I'd like to hear that garbage can lid snare - ha ha.
Might have to try something like that.

Re: Photo Essay: Ludwig Mfg Center in NC

Every time I see a thread about Ludwig, I feel a bit bad for not having one of their sets anymore - or at least a snare.
Maybe I can remedy that.
Thanks for linking to the photos.

Re: Tama Birch/Bubinga Used

That's on the high side for that kit, but not outrageous if you really want it.

Maybe there's some room to bargain a bit.
Check ebays 'sold' listings to see what they've gone for recently. ...

Re: "Marching kit" finally complete

Very cool. I like it.

About the snare - you probably wouldn't want to do this,
but all it would take to get it to match better would be to stain the main body portion dark.
That would lower...

Re: Am I the ONLY guy that likes the sound of poplar drums?

Different woods do have different characteristics, including sound and difficulty or ease of working with it.
That doesn't have any bearing on the level of craftsmanship or commitment of the people...

Re: Enjoy the Hammer Bermuda

Yep - he looks like he's "in the zone".

A week or two ago, Weird Al played at Summerfest in Wisconsin. A little closer to my area.
I'm assuming Bermuda was on the drums there too.
Very busy...
