Re: Another *&^%$# Bar Owner

Agreed, and not every club can really afford to have live music. The club should understand that, and bands should stop pestering those establishments for payment that cannot reasonably be made, and...

Re: Another *&^%$# Bar Owner

Exactly. How is it that people, even musicians, don't get that?

The biggest mistake is thinking that bars make a ton of money because they charge $5-10 for drinks, and it looks like money is...

Re: Kevlar snare shells?

Because both Carbon Fiber and Kevlar would be set in acrylic, I think they'd sound pretty similar, and not too different than any other acrylic shell. Yes, the density of the fabrics will cause some...

Re: Another *&^%$# Bar Owner

Funny, some of these bands don't understand that the bar owner doesn't want to be out of pocket either!

They also don't seem to get that.

I'm somewhat amused by the entitlement some bands...

Re: Another *&^%$# Bar Owner

It's not strictly the band's responsibility, but bars aren't in the business of paying bands just to be nice. The band has to make it worthwhile for the bar to bring them if they expect to be paid,...

Re: Upgrade From Yamaha DP... 60's Ludwig?

Just wanna make a pitch for the Element Club dates. I had my Club Date 18" kick & 12" tom on a gig tonight, and that tom just sounded beautiful! Very vintage, warm, with a sweet resonance that...

Re: I know - this is a real first world problem.

More kits is not the answer. I have 11 kits available for in-town gigs, and it's still just as difficult as when I had 2 kits.

Re: The "Jimi Hendrix of drums"

And that's exactly right (without the possible benefit of looking it up...) Not saying he's done for drums what Hendrix did for the guitar, but as a first impression, Moon makes absolute sense.

Re: I know - this is a real first world problem.

Two kits? Pearl and Ludwig? What happened to that cool Tama kit I saw you with? :)

Re: The "Jimi Hendrix of drums"

Not sure that the drummer in question necessarily revolutionized anything, the comment was more of a face value, off the cuff remark. Don't think too hard, just kinda the first name that pops into...

The "Jimi Hendrix of drums"

I came across a quote where someone described a particular drummer as "the Jimi Hendrix of the drums" and I thought that was a great comparison.

Care to guess which drummer the person was...

Re: Does playing covers change you?

Hopefully, every playing opportunity is a learning and growth experience, whether it means you have to stretch out, or back off and provide the simple beat necessary for most pop songs.

Drumming...

Re: Upgrade From Yamaha DP... 60's Ludwig?

Agreed on the old hardware and 3/8" posts and legs, I have all of my new kits fitted for the old parts. I even use original 1400 stands for cymbals and my snare on my in-town gigs and sessions.

Re: Upgrade From Yamaha DP... 60's Ludwig?

The late-'60s & early '70s Ludwigs are some of the most sought-after vintage drums out there, and perhaps Ludwig's best sounding era for punchy rock drums. They are great drums to find, but they must...

Re: Cool drum beat -

The bongo/conga part and the kick/click/cym are imaginative, but far from difficult (unless you're trying to do both!) But why have it written out if you don't read?

Re: Totally lost

It's important to identify where your weaknesses are, and then work on correcting them until it becomes habit.

For example, using a drum loop or machine - not a metronome click - practice...

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

I don't have anything to compare it to in terms of accuracy. It's just a snare solo, and a bit choppy at times (he's not a rudimental drummer.)

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

This touches on my previous response.

If you're not sure about a part, how do you know the guy on YouTube knows what to do?

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

You need to develop better listening habits to be able to trust your own ears, not someone else's. YT is not a resource for determining the accuracy of parts. The vast majority of drummers and other...

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

Abso-LUTELY not! There's some fun stuff to be found, and occasionally some excellent technical playing, but there's nothing there that I can use in real life (that I don't already know.) Besides,...

I've been using mine over the last several days of gigs, and it's pretty nice! Looks great with an Onyx head, although that's not my first choice for batters.

Re: Drumming as Art

Some players do possess the art, and it comes through no matter what they play. Whether deliberate or by accident, Ringo is one of those drummers which may explain why his drumming causes such...

That was shot at the end of October and has been on YouTube for some reason, glad to see it's on regular TV now. I advised him to get paid up front, and not in Radio Shack stock! (which has now...

My 16x20" Keystone is one of my best-sounding, most-used kick drums!
