I ran into the same problem when I was learning to play traditional grip. I happen to be a tall guy too. But once I learned to tuck my elbow in a little, it solved the problem.

If you play all tensed up, that will be a problem maker. I suggest stretching your hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, and legs before playing, and just focus on playing with...

It almost goes without saying that all rudiments can also be applied to your feet, its just a matter of going slower when starting out. Groovemaster_flex has some good suggestions.

Apparently the shape of the "Ludwig" badge on the drums can tell you a little bit about the age of the drum. I'm no Ludwig expert but maybe someone else here can tell you a little more.
