Re: Drums suck!

I've got some Yamaha BCAN drums. The 16X16 Fl. tom has 3 vent holes on the reso end,and the 18x20 has 5 (4 reso and 1 batter). The 14x14 and all the smaller toms have 1 near the reso end. I can't...

Re: Flatfoot Technique?

There's a exercise that I saw on you tube, Derek I think. He was playing a few bars of 1/8's then 1/8 note triplets, then 1/16th's. After you've done that you go back down to the triplets, then 1/8's...

Re: Explanation of Rock & Roll...

The swing is a rockin, the rock is a swingin. I didn't know that. I just play. if it's good then alright.

Re: Flatfoot Technique?

I'm not an expert and can only play around 160 heel up and continuous release. My observations have been that a lot of players playing as fast as you're talking about, are using triggers, for the...

Re: so my band wants to do top 40s...

I think you should try it. Those gigs can be a lot of fun. That kind of music is not hard to learn. Just catch all the stops and starts, and play a beat similar to the original. The challenge isn't...

Re: are the constant release and heel toe techniques the same?

I think there is a lot of difference. I'm working on both and not proficient at either, but constant release is my best at the moment. I think most people play doubles with heel toe, just like you do...

Re: question to bass drum slide technique users

I think I've seen it done on you tube before, but I don't think it would work very well for constant notes, like metal players use the heel toe for. I think it takes too long to get set up for the...

Re: 420 musicians onstage

I liked what BillRay said. There are good and bad sides to everything. We got to weigh it out for ourselves.

Re: 420 musicians onstage

This is the way I was in the late 70's. I wasn't right unless I was stoned. It was in 1980 that I quit. I bet I couldn't play at all, stoned now. Then I couldn't play(or anything else) unless I was...

Re: Gigged last night

Dr. Watso that made me laugh. I've always been a bit backwards.
Bo, the lights we used in the 80's would have warmed us up, these newer ones don't get that hot.

Re: First time in EIGHT years.. I have drums set up at my place.

Congrats on the house. I guess I'm spoiled. I've always had drums at my house. You'll enjoy that a lot. I like your kit. I've alway thought Granstars were great drums. I think they are the equivalent...

Gigged last night

Our first gig with this band went real good. It was outside and got pretty cold, but we played well. Our equipment was all wet by the night's end, from the dew. I brought my drums home and took them...

Re: My new (used) Tama Superstar Hyper-Drives

That looks like a nice kit. I didn't realize Superstars had diecast hoops. Is that an upgrade? I'm with you on the toms. I've alway liked at least a 5 pc. kit. I like the wrap. Maybe a tom or Fl. tom...

Re: My Snare Collection..:)

Wow there are some nice drums there. Did I spot a Yamaha steel snare in there? I've got one that looks similar. It''s a 1988 model. I had a few vintage snares, and sold them to buy cymbals. I use the...
