Re: Stock snares

I have the stock snare that came with my Zickos kit and I really like it. I hadn't used it in a while but I dragged it out the other day for a gig and it was really good.

Re: Pete Cater on Big Band drumming

Enjoyed that but I have a question and a problem. the question is why does he but a plywood board under the snare? And the problem is I think his ride cymbal is too light, more for small group...

Re: Taking the wrap off

I took the wrap off of a no name set. You could tell it was a re wrap in the first place, and a poor one at that. The wrap was over some holes that were left in on the tom mounts. Also, the...

He's the lead character in "The Music Man" Knows nothing about music, yet around the turn of the 20th century tries to hoodwink the good people of Gary, Indiana into buying band instruments. Great...

Re: Can you read sheet music?

Boomka, I can read your chart easily. I'm sure if we both played it mine would be a little different from yours but the gist is there. I would be able to get through it without a rehearsal.

Re: Can you read sheet music?

I play in a 17 piece Glenn Miller style big band. We haves several thousand charts and travel with at least 1000 (yes that is 4 places). Takes a small suitcase to carry mine. As jhostetler said,...

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

Back in the day, when I had to walk twenty miles to school through three feet of snow uphill both ways, I used nylon tips because I liked the definition. Today I use wood tips because I like the...

Re: Last piece of gear you forgot?

At one time or another I have probably forgotten every thing except the shell pack. This includes sticks, bass pedal, cymbals, hi hat clutch, music, I can't remember what else (pun intended). Most...

Re: The power of smiling

My wife used to tell me that, when I was playing, I looked miserable. I didn't believe her until I saw some pictures of myself. Now I put on my "drummers face" and look I am having a good time and...

Re: I'm back. Did you miss me?

Re: I'm back. Did you miss me?

I kind of did. I have a foreign made 4 piece kit that is in pretty good shape(no label). It had a hideous blue wrap and I have been reading all these posts about stripping them. I used a painters...

Re: I'm back. Did you miss me?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but, I just had my second gig tonight. Though things went OK, I was just a little off the mark. I have more gigs coming up and I expect to get better. The good...

When playing one up and one down...

...do you put the small tom left or right? Why? I normally play a 5 piece and am thinking about going to 4 and would like some ideas.

Re: What's your story about how you started drumming?

I started beginning band in the 6th grade. My school was small so we marched 7th through 12th grades. By the time I was in the 9th grade I was the top drummer which wasn't saying much. We got a...

66587
