Re: hand technique with marching vs kit play

Tenor players do not play in french grip. you must be thinking of timpani. Both grips can be used to play timpani, it depends on the sound you want. On tenors, the thumb may be turned up slightly...

Re: Renoun 5 pc groove kit or Pro M??

thats a pretty tough decision you gotta make there. From what I have heard, Gretsch has a very high reputation, at least around here. They must sound good. I however, have a Mapex Pro M Standard, and...

Re: how important is rudiments? + i need general help

from what I heard on your band's myspace, yes you need a little work. rudiments are very important as stated countless times, and I would advise you learn as many as you can.

Re: What Drum Kit is right for me?

an upgrade from solar to B8 isnt going to get you very far. However the kinds you listed at the end are good too. Look into Zildjian A's (Avedis) too, those are good

Re: Drummer From Ac/Dc

just thought I'd like to clear this up, but acdc has had 8 different drummers/changes, not two

73-74: Colin Burgess
74: Noel Taylor, Peter Clack, Tony Currenti, and finally Phil Rudd

Re: Mapex Saturn vs Sonor S Classix

as far as finishes go, I personally like the electric berry burst on the saturn. I don't know...maybe I'm just weird, but it screams "POWER!!" to me. I don't really like the plain wood finishes, for...

did you guys read some of the posts at the bottom of the page at the link? jeez, some of the posts act like the ONLY THING that makes a band terrible is the drummer. One of the posts said that they...

Re: PLEASE HELP!!! DW VS Tama starclassic Maple

also keep in mind that DW uses reinforcement hoops on their maple shells. Tama does not. That will mute it slightly. Maybe not noticeably, but yes, it will mute the drum a little bit.

Re: Need Drum Info.

actually, an acoustic kit is easier to set up and tear down. for electronic kits, you have to wire the pads and stuff, and it takes a lot longer. no offense or anything, but anything you get would...

Re: Need Drum Info.

why do you think electronic is the best way to go? unless you are really concerned about keeping yourself quiet when you play, I would recommend getting an acoustic kit to start out. I am not saying...

Re: What Drum Kit is right for me?

a head change would probably work. are you sure about the starclassic? they are awesome drums, but really expensive. but if you can afford it, I say go for it.

ive heard good things about the DW acoustic EQ snare. It's got these two little gizmos where you can open them thing up and its vented, or you can close it, or open it up halfway, etc.

Re: Buying a set around $1,000

I second that. You can get alot more for $1,000 on ebay than you could on online music stores. However, if you are wary of putting $1,000 on ebay and really want to buy new, I would go for Mapex Pro...

Re: Pearl or Mapex ???

aside from that, I would go with the Mapex M Birch. Much better value. The M Birch's have..well....BIRCH shells. Exports have poplar shells, which they claim is light...

Re: China positioning

You break chinas that often?!?! A cymbal will last for a very long time if you play it correctly. I'm not saying your technique is bad....well...maybe that is what i'm saying, no offense.

Re: Sonor 3005 vs. Mapex Pro M

One more thing Con, that is not a very accurate diagram. It sounds to me like you have a brand loyalty to Sonor.

Re: Sonor 3005 vs. Mapex Pro M

I disagree. Just because something is more expensive DOES NOT mean it is better. Also...what is wrong with the Mapex tom mounts? They work just fine for me! Yes, it is hard to compare these two...
