Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

It doubles as my living room. That shot misses my guitar amp, a corner shelf of bits and pieces, the lute, the violin. The drum sets are downstairs along with the keyboards. I have far too much...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

...and that is perfectly fine. It's like watching a sport that you don't care for. The example people usually cite is cricket, even though I find it endlessly engrossing. A lot of people don't...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

Added a picture of some of my setup in that thread, as per your request! I can't play the drums here and I have another room full of gear downstairs...

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

I also love how France was classified as a 'Flawed Democracy' in the 2012 democracy index.

1,000 years of annoying them and we still have new material!

Re: Rant: Who's in charge at Gibraltar??

Imagine trying to get in for the festival though with the Spanish authorities acting the way they have been lately.

Annoying mainland Europe is a tradition that lives on in England. I intend to...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

A lot of 'wood shedding' does take place on the laptop. Honestly. It took me just as long to competently programme basic software for musical performance as it did for me to be able to play a basic...

Re: Annoyed and disappointed with myself

You!

Mediocre gigs happen - if I had a quid for each one that I've played then I'd have quite a bit more money than I have now...

As for not hitting the drums hard enough. That's quite a...

Re: IMPERIAL CYMBALS RIPPED US OFF!!!

Much harder to rip people off with a coffee shop. No, wait. Starbucks.

The man is a genius.

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

Distinct fail, I see. The idea 'marriage' in Western terms is a relatively arbitrary and recent construct...

Re: should I jam with a big band???

Do it!

I played in a similar setup at University and I learned a lot about music as a whole but also about working with other people, watching a conductor, playing dynamics and timbre choice. ...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

No, you were quite clear.

So how is a Piano different from a laptop? Acoustic - yes. Both are technological in nature though. What if his Piano had also failed?

The point I'm making is...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

I think it's time for the reductio ad absurdum sensor to be re-calibrated, mate!

I'd love to have seen anybody say that to my ex. She was a conductor and capable of kicking anyone's arse.

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

How is that any different from somebody having another laptop from which to work and using that instead? I would hardly call a synthesiser an 'acoustic instrument'.

If you look at it that way, a...

Re: Anti-Social Sound Levels?

It is down to the judgement of the enforcement team. If somebody is having an issue, they ring the team at the council. If enough people make a complaint, an enforcement officer will visit and...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

You've always struck me as an open-minded chap. The picture is an extreme example, I admit!

I can see why people don't understand what an electronic musician does. I was thinking the other day...

Re: Completely out of touch old fart irrelevant opinion - but,

Right, I'm wading into this thread.

There is nothing musically different about somebody putting together music on a laptop or a full band putting together music. It requires no less skill, no...

Re: Not doing a gig because of the venue

Sounds like the Water Rats to me.

EDIT: Damn, beaten to it.

Had a very bad experience a couple of years ago at a reasonably famous gig venue in Kentish Town named after a farmyard animal that...

Re: Does anyone actually like big finales?

I absolutely hate them. I've watched a lot of gigs (old and new) that have the 'grand finale' and it's just boring. To me, at least. A couple of years ago I was watching Neil Young and his band...

Re: Playing Out for the First Time in 40 Years!

I've been wanting to play 'Red' live for years. What a fantastic choice! I'm glad you had a great time. It's funny. After a while you don't miss playing live and then it takes one moment of...

Re: Wow, I just safely and completely unyellowed my WMP

Don't do it Brian! The older wraps (up until the late 60s) used a different kind of plastic and will probably react very badly with the retrobrite solution.

Re: Which is/was heavier - Sonor Designer or Yamaha RC?

The bass drum tom mount on the Designers is a huge bit of metalwork. I suspect that may be the difference between the kits. I haven't directly compared the weights so it's only a speculative guess...

Re: Ringo should have performed at Candlestick Park not just Paul

I like Octopus's Garden.

Ringo will always be the voice of 'Thomas the Tank Engine' to me.
