Re: John Bonham Snare on the bay

OK. I stand corrected. After all those iconic photos of him behind green sparkle, maple, amber vistalite , stainless steel.....I don't know if I can picture him playing black and white swirl.

Re: John Bonham Snare on the bay

Mine is from 1978 and looks a bit better. I only paid $450. I'll stick with mine. Bonham probably didn't even play that one (if it's actually the one) since that kit he never gigged. Didn't he...

Re: Sonor-king of the micro kits?

Here here! I do the same with my 24 Luddie, and my standard 22 Pearl. As Joe Morello says, it's got to be big enough to be considered a bass drum. Can't argue with that guy ;)

I'm convinced...

Re: Cymbal/Tom stand stabilization

Could you post a picture of what it looks like? However, this sounds like a case of asking your existing stand to do much more than it can handle.

Re: Snare for a $200 budget

I've owned both and both are good drums. In my case, I'd have both because I think everyone should have a wood snare and a metal snare, just to be able to cover all bases (it really is as basic as...

Re: Sonor-king of the micro kits?

Well yeah, but Pearl wasn't going to make me a 20x12 to go with my bop kit. I had considered a 20x14 for my Reference Pure kit, if I didn't mind waiting 10 months ;)

Re: Sonor-king of the micro kits?

On the other hand, the 18" is the best compromise when space considerations come into play, and it gets 'in the ballpark' when a bass drum sound is needed, although it sounds more like a 'gut punch'...

Re: Sonor-king of the micro kits?

I think the bass drum on the Martini is too small. Safari and up is good. I think I sold a bunch of those for Sonor and I'm still waiting for my check. But I also tried the Bop, Gretschs Catalina...

Re: Options under a thousand?

Everybody makes a pretty solid kit for under a grand. I suggest browsing the Modern Drummer magazine to see what your son might like - there will be alot of new names and some old ones. The...

Re: Your warm-up tips here!

Not that I'm good at it, but a really physical game of ping pong does wonders for me. Or a bike ride, or some basketball.

Re: Comparing oneself to others (drummers)

....or you could look at it like I would and walk around thinking, "God I'm so glad I don't have to do that anymore...where were those bacon wrapped twinkies again?" ;)

It is human nature to...

Re: Can you practice buzz roll on a drumpad?

Question is, are you going to be using your eKit with this band or an acoustic kit?

if it's big band jazz, you need to be playing an acoustic kit anyway - which means you should be practicing on...

Re: Bo Rants! - follow up

Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind ;). We will roll forward. Like I said, if it happens again, I'm calling it and firing him.

And no Madge, we don't have children. And I'm not about to now.

Re: Bo Rants! - follow up

Part of me is advising against this - probably the old "get off my lawn" part of me - but the other part of me didn't become this cool by being a complete a-hole all the time. So I feel like the...

Re: Bo Rants! - follow up

South? Ah. That's right (doh!). We'll see where he books us. I'm sure a couple more rehearsals and we should be ready to go live....stay tuned ;)

Re: Bo Rants! - follow up

The guitarist is finding some venues in the Huntington Beach area, and I guess northward into Newport - that's where most of the places to play would be, local to him. I'll be honest, if the music...

Bo Rants! - follow up

So some of you may remember this thread I posted about my trio's bass player just having a meltdown in my home during a rehearsal:

Re: sixteenths on hats?

Depending on what I'm going for, I'll either use one hand or two hands. Two hands if I want it to be a bit more robotic. Here's an example of doing it one-handed. I think for me it's just all...

Re: New to me Acrolite

Don't believe the Internet on that one. The cable works - and the coating does nothing to the shell, btw - but this is where the pliers come into play. You simple tie a knot against itself, but by...

Re: The false perception of Luan

So you have "experimental" drums and "gigging" drums. How cool is that?
