Re: First time in EIGHT years.. I have drums set up at my place.

Congratulations man. There's nothing like the freedom of playing your own kit in your own house. Here's to a happy life.

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

TBH, I'm more sentimental about my cymbals. Drums come and go but my cymbals... there's an expression that uses cold dead hands that comes to mind...

My Guru Origin drums are the exception,...

Re: screwed up my first gig

If you care to look on the bright side....you knew exactly what went wrong. The first step in fixing a problem is identifying it. Then the solution makes itself apparent. So you're identifying the...

Re: Left hand: uneven strikes & poor grip. Advice needed

If you play matched, one of the things that helped me was to observe how I moved the stick with my "good" hand compared to my "weak" hand. I noticed that I was using 2 different techniques for each...

Re: Jim Gordon

If there was a drummer I model myself after, it would be Jim Gordon. I just can't get enough of his playing. I love how Clapton talks about Jim...only in the most loving and respectful manner. To me...

Re: screwed up my first gig

Welcome to the club. Your cherry is popped now and it stung a little. You're doing fine and you got it out of the way. I would be worried if you said you nailed the gig. Delusion and all that. But...

Re: Just in case you forgot

I'm with you here. I really admire those who can really finesse a cymbal. A cymbals maximum volume is about the most generic, one dimensional sound it can make IMO.

Re: Just Bought a late 60's Luddy Kit

Looks great Bob.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much does it bother you to have 2 different badges on the the same kit. My WMP Luds...the 13" tom has a different badge. I've learned to let it go,...

Re: Member leading other members on in a series of misleading questions in threads.

I have to concur with the others. If you know his deal, just ignore him. You are sinking to his level.

Re: Metronome app that speeds up and then slows down

Metronomes are for keeping the meter steady. You can speed up and slow down all on your own. But hey if that's how you want to use one.

Re: Kick Drum physics experts in the house?

Crank the reso head. A tight reso head will tame an out of control bass drum. Tight like a tympani, boing!

A boingy reso head makes for a great kick tone in my world.

Re: Blues Drum Kit

Wow what a great shot. I'm surprised the snare is a deeper one. I would have guessed most guys in that era would use a 5" drum. What do I know. Too bad you can't hear them in the picture. They look...

Re: Just in case you forgot

But...but....but.... cymbals have to cut right? I jest. This is so refreshing to hear. I love a good blend.

Re: Minor "Stick Control" Revision

Nice to see you around again Andrew. I agree with you all the way. Takes a lot of courage to suggest revisions on a classic. I like seeing that. It says a lot about you. But I cite the same reasons...

Re: Using Left Foot Hi-Hat, Does It Help Improve Time?

I can't say I use it to keep time. I use it to fatten the beat and to add a welcome added dimension to my playing.

Re: Tension

Humming was very detrimental to my ability to hear exactly what was happening. I was substituting what was really happening with a loud, low drone, because I wasn't comfortable with space. Not facing...

Re: Tension

I'm going under the premise that it's not as much how a person looks, it's more how they feel inside. I'm referring to a tense mind mainly. Techniques are all different. It's totally possible to be...

Re: Tension

Your first question...it depends on the drummers approach. My answer would be, not at the expense of the music. IMO, the music has to be covered 100% before anything else can be added. My personal...

Re: Tension

Great line. I am in no way implying otherwise. What I am saying is that if he's that great with tension...only going off my own experiences....imagine how great he would be completely relaxed....

Re: Tension

That's the whole crux of the thread, controlling...actually doing away with...the tension. Very beneficial to one's playing.

Being uncomfortable saying something and coming across as uncomfortable...

Re: Tension

Not following Madge. Isn't all tension created by us? Tension is a choice. You can say stuff you are afraid of saying, without being tense, or am I way off?

Tension

I wanted to share some observations and conclusions I arrived at concerning tension while playing. I notice players, not just drummers, who look like they are trying so hard....too hard actually IMO,...

You can't just agree, can you? You could have said how witty that was, but NOOO!

What the hell is a jacket potato?

Wait, I got this. Is it a big potato?
