Re: 2 rack toms vs 2 floor toms

I am just amateur drummer, I pay my rent by doing mechanical engineering, material science and intellectual property, I can see that others have that fluid and liquid feel when playing that I do not...

Re: muffler question? I guess

My two favorite snare drums are Rogers, 5 inch and 6.5 inch Rogers chrome over brass Dynasonic. Both of these drums have mechanical mufflers, and both I am using Mylar heads. I can switch between...

Re: 2 rack toms vs 2 floor toms

Jim, I do not understand the confusion. Perhaps, playing an additional floor tom is uncomfortable for match grip as well as traditional grip. It can be done, but it is not as easy and free as using...

Re: 2 rack toms vs 2 floor toms

I have not used the floor toms on both sides of the snare. I can not work with the floor toms as two toms on the dominant hand side (in my case both on the right side). I just have a problem with...

Re: muffler question? I guess

Not all of the old or new mufflers rattle. I like them because it is easy to change the drum sound without having to remove jell or rings. I also think they had a greater impact on the skin heads...

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

It does not impact me in a negative way when someone plays a kit with a strange arrangement where the snare is at the edge of their reach, or they have to stand up on the thrown to hit the cymbals....

Re: Writing with the weak hand?

I was doing drum exercises to strengthen my left hand and it did get much stronger. At the time, I was also painting murals on walls, and used my left hand because it had easier access to certain...

Re: am I the last one to know about this technique for playing lower volume on cymbals?

Back to the lowering of the volume problem.

On Saturday I was playing in my small room with some people. I have been choking the sticks and trying to play at a very low volumes.

I...

Re: extreme tom angles and snare tilt

Buddy Rich had the snare higher, and he brought the side of the snare near him higher by angling it downward like that. I used to do that as well, mostly because the snare stands did not go high...

Re: Tuning

I usually start with the floor tom to try to get the lowest sound I can without it buzzing and without a lot of ringing. I have two kits, one is a Pearl MCX Masters with three overhead toms and and...

Re: extreme tom angles and snare tilt

He has the toms over on his extreme left, and the snare is down extremely low. It almost looks to me like he he did not have the time to finish setting up. But, as stated before, he does a good...

Re: 24" bass drum - 10" main snare, surely not?

The kit sounds great, I just can not get used to the sound of small snare drums, even the sound of a 13" sometimes bothers me. Perhaps, there is some kind of music where this will sound good....

Re: Bass drum makes windows vibrate

Take a piece of plexiglass, and if you can afford it, lexan (polycarbonite) instead. If you can, do not place the sheet of plexiglass/ lexan parallel, place it on a slight angle to the glass. You...

Re: Great car for a drummer

My last car was a 2005 Honda Civic. I drive a lot between DC and NJ in the USA. I drive a lot and I like a car to handle like a car instead of a truck, or SUV.

While I was down in DC right...
