Re: The drummers who just go for it

God, this again? This place IS turning into a guitar forum. Everybody just hating on everybody else. Guess what, I cant read music and I only know a few basic rudiments and it has never stopped me...

Re: for sale - east coast

You can have Rhode Island. Shipping costs would be low and nobody would miss it anyway.

Re: Stage Banter

This is exactly what one of my bands does. We have programmed loops that we run between a couple of songs when we change tunings. Other than that its one song into the next into the next. Our singer...

Re: Band Pay Splits

Wait a minute, there are people making money to do this? Why didn't anybody tell me?

So we evenly split the cost of playing gigs, everybody pitches in for gas, buys their own beer and loads their...

Re: How do you hear it all?

I think most of us deal with what you are describing. Cymbals tend to fuzz out everything else when you lay into them, I think its just a proximity thing. We play in some really shitty little clubs...

Re: Show your drumming "battle scars"?

That is gnarly! I am really going to like this thread.

Re: New find! 80's Wailin Smash video = ultimate epicness :)

I wish I had been old enough to be around the music scene in the 80's. It looked like so much fun. As silly as he looks, he wasn't nearly as bad as some of those guys that were actually playing in...

Re: Matt Smith in Under 2 Minutes.

Good to hear an update on Matt, he is definitely missed around here. I hope that he is able to take his Nashville experience and turn it into a positive that he can learn from. Sometimes, with the...

Re: Creating A Logo

hahaha. I think every extreme metal band would disagree with you.

I personally hate my bands logo so I am probably not the person to ask.

Re: How to you construct your parts?

I certainly don't write anything down. Usually the guy who writes the riff has a feel for what he wants the drums to do and we feel it out while playing it a few times. As we arrange the song things...

Re: Starclassic maple or DW collectors

This is tough call. I am admittedly a Tama fanboy, so I may be a bit biased but I would go with the Starclassics. I have always found the DW's to be a bit boxy sounding for my taste. the SC Maples...

Re: Difficult band members

I have been in more bands than I care to count throughout the years and I have found that invariably bands made up of friends tend to fail faster than ones made up of acquaintances. I think the...

Re: Band leaders

Larry, I'm fascinated by this. So you really have no idea if the guy can hack it until he is onstage? Wow, that is a terrible time to find out that the guy cant handle the gig. You are also saying...

Re: How are drums recorded for a song?

As far as counting the measures to know when to change, I will assume that is pretty commonplace, it is how I have always recorded. However, I do know a band that had the drummer get one great take...

Re: Gigs.....

We are working on a small east coast tour in late summer. Haven't toured since I was in my early 20's so I am pretty stoked about that. Although at our collective age and income I don't think we will...

Re: I took a hearing test...

When I separated from the military a couple of years ago I had to take a hearing test. I knew that I had tinnitus and hearing loss for years but I didn't realize how bad it was until the VA told me I...

Re: Is this "Unprofessional"

I don't know man. I have never played with brushes in my life. If a band told me to play with brushes I would laugh at them and tell them to come find me at the bar when the song was over. Sounds to...

Re: The sound guy

I will be honest how the drums sound is actually really low on my priority list for FOH sound. I am a member of a band, as such I want the band to sound as good as possible. What I really want is the...

Re: Warning, imminent British invasion of New Jersey & New Orleans!

Preservation hall has live music just about every night so I would go check that out. Other than that, as Doug said, there are bars with music all around the French quarter. One place had dueling...

Re: Preparing for an audition

Remember, you are also auditioning them. If a band had shown up at the time the audition was expected to start only to then try and get the sound right, that would have been a huge red flag to me....

I just have one request, please post the first time you put your foot down about using the backline and are told to get bent. As a guy who has done sound for numerous clubs and festivals I will tell...

I forgot about this thread.

Stikpin -

Its a typical 4 band local band bill. I think its $5 to get in. All good hard rock bands.

Re: How Does Your Band Set Up on Stage?

Check out Lo-Pan. I have seen them live a hand full of times and this has been the stage set up every time! Standing by the stage, with the bass drum at chest level it hits hard!

Re: Very excited!!!

I played in Canada once. Can I use the title until you officially take it over?

Or maybe I will go with International Drumming Sensation! Has a nice ring to it.
