Re: Drinking and Drumming

I limit myself to one bottle of beer during soundcheck. It's nice as I normally arrive at the venue feeling harassed and flustered. Carrying a cymbal bag, brass snare and bass drum pedal on rush hour...

Re: What's the song and drummer that made you want to play drums?

Seeing Phil Collins and Chester Thompson playing the "Drum Duet" at Knebworth '92. Dad was a big Genesis fan.

Instant awe and wonder. I started lessons the week after. 20 years later, I'm still...

Re: Tips for auditoning band members...

As someone who's seen at least 15+ members come and go over the years, it's important that you all feel that you can get on with a person.

After all, how long can you actually wait to decide?

Re: tame impala

I was at this gig.

My girlfriend said she really wanted to see them, so I went along with her. I'd only managed to listen to a couple of tracks beforehand and liked the sound. I really didn't...

Re: How long have you been playing?

Coming up to 16 years for me. I generally try to practice on my pad for at least half an hour a day. Sometimes I manage an hour though.

An idea for practicing to a click.

Hi all,

I don't drop by much any more but try to visit whenever I can. Hope you are all well.

I have recently thought of an idea to help practising to a click. I think it has helped me to be...

Re: London Jazz

The 12 Bar Club on Denmark St is always good plus the Aint Nothin' But The Blues bar on Kingly St. Both intimate little venues with mainly acoustic acts. I know you asked about jazz but my knowledge...

Re: Secondary Snare

My reasons exactly.

I have a beast of a Free Floating brass 14x6.5 main snare and a Pearl Piccolo 13x3 Maple. 2 contrasting sounds that work well for different songs/parts of songs.

The band are wanting to record 3 tracks to get ourselves a decent demo CD to give out at gigs/send to radio stations etc. We normally...

Re: The Drummer-Bassist Relation

I think the relationship is incredibly important.

To play with a good bass player, does not have to be technically incredible but just with a good feel, really brings out the best in me. I try to...

Re: Serpent's Rise drum cam....

I'm not a massive metal fan but the metal bands I do like have very good drummers. You sir are a very good drummer so therefore I like your band :)

Re: DrummerLive 2008

I am gutted I missed it :(

I have been going every year that it has been on. I have just moved house and have NO spare cash. I gigged on Friday and had to root through all my 'used' sticks to...

Re: Playing a gig at short notice

I was asked to fill in for a friends drummer at short notice. 6 hours before they were meant to play :/

Luckily it was only 8 songs, all originals. He e-mailed them to me and I listened while air...

Re: How often do you...

OK lets clarify, I am NOT dismissing the benefits of pad work in general. To me only. Try to think of it from my point of view. I do not feel I am progressing in the way I would like to. That has a...

Yes but please read my other posts in the thread, I didn't intend to say a pad is of no use.

Re: Laptop and click

Yes you are right, I find when I struggle to hear the click properly I play more cautiously and therefore sloppy because I am trying to concentrate on hearing the click rather than playing the drums....

Re: WHATS WRONG WITH MY SNARE DRUM!!

^^ indeed

I actually had a sound guy agree with me the other day that if a snare has a natural ring it should be left to ring. I nearly fell off my stool.

Re: Laptop and click

Well here is the track, played at Sundays rehearsal. As you can hear I have the click coming out through the PA. Only the 3rd time we have played the song so very rough around the edges :)

Re: How often do you...

hehehe...indeed a misunderstanding. I do have a pad at home but I have found it so uninspiring and not what I need practice on. Saying that its always a good idea to focus on the nitty gritty of...
