Re: Just taken my grade 3 exam

Good stuff mate. I did a few of those back in the day and the feeling of being examined is mildly terrifying.

I'm sure you did just fine! Let us know how you got on.

Re: Hating your playing, sometimes or always.

KamaK is right here as ever. A veritable font of wisdom.

Thaard, I know you're a really, really good player. One of the best I've heard on here and you've got your stuff together. For you, it's...

Re: What computer should I get?

It's a fair shout. I think 128 is too small for general use on-the-go but mass storage is so cheap these days that you can work around it.

SSDs are much, much more reliable than spinning hard...

Re: I took a hearing test...

'Sibilance' is what the high-frequencies are often referred to as by audiologists. Often between 4,000-10,000 Hz. That's the 'magic' you're talking about Gruntersdad. The reason that people with...

Re: Royalties

As far as my understanding of this goes:-

For performance rights, each track is given an ISRC code, which is international and specific to the artist. I have my own ISRC registration and it is up...

Re: What computer should I get?

Reaper works, as does Cubase. Check for the .au formats on plug ins but other plug in formats work.

I have more-or-less that arrangement but with the 512GB drive. Great computer. I'm typing...

Re: What computer should I get?

If necessary, you can always install Windows 8.1 on a Mac. I did this a couple of weeks ago (so I could play my Steam collection) and 8.1 runs like an absolute dream on my Mac.

If you do go this...

Re: My Kit Build Begins!

Incidentally, you paid a very fair price for those. A few years ago in the UK that would have been possible but Istanbuls have been going up in price. I bought a 20" ride (that I still have) 10...

Re: Congratulations Jules

'Come to bed, Jules!'

'I can't, somebody needs insulting on the Internet!'

Does that sound about right?

Re: What computer should I get?

I really wouldn't consider that as an option. The one USB port for everything (including power) is ideal for people that use their laptops without much outboard, e.g. writers, students and...

Re: What computer should I get?

With regard to something that is well-built, reliable, well-featured and virtually hassle-free, I'd also recommend a Mac. I use a 13" MacBook Pro Retina and I've had several Macs (Mac-only since...

Re: The worst gig of my life

I own quite a few guitars.

I can assure you they're all very, very different. You have no idea what you're talking about.

That's a side issue though.

Drummingman, if you were a beginner I'd go easy but you've been on this forum for near-enough eight years.

Re: The worst gig of my life

Right.

Here's the thing. You're not taking responsibility. You have a 'crap gig'. Whose fault is that?

It's not the venue's fault. You can communicate with them and plan ahead. That's your...

Re: The worst gig of my life

No it wouldn't. There would be another band willing to take the slot.

Look mate. I think you're making excuses for a crap gig. If you were halfway as good as you think you are, you could have...

Re: Simple 3 mic recording - opinions please

Great overhead sound. I agree with Bo that the bass drum sounds a little fluffy around the edges but these are only nitpicks and you know how much I love the sound of your kits, Andy.

Re: The worst gig of my life

That does happen. All the time. There's no point in antagonising sound people, they'll just give you a crappy mix. You're working together to try and give the best show you can to the audience. ...

Re: Just starting at 53 and will need all the help I can get!

James is absolutely right.

A well-made drum kit that will respond to a range of tunings is relatively inexpensive in this day and age and 300 will buy you a decent kit second-hand. You can...
