Re: First time buyer advice

I'd ask for a discount on the $750 and just buy the drum shells.
Don't bother with the Sabian B8 hats and cymbals, if you can hold off.
Just buy the drums and then get used hats, ride, crash that...

Re: Science finally proves drummers have different brains than the rest of the band

Agreed. i have to admit though, the test is a funny one. if I'm focussed on a groove or my mind is deep into it, I would not want to answer questions for some scientific survey. I mean not many of...

Re: Science finally proves drummers have different brains than the rest of the band

you mean 'segue' not 'segway'. I made the same mistake for years until most recently.

'segway' are the 2-wheeled, self-balancing, battery-powered electric vehicle for lazy folks who don't walk...

Re: Ginger Bakers Latest

Old people keep walking, even though they don't walk as well as when they were younger. So why stop drumming at all, if you can still drum a bit?

Again didn't see Bellson's or Bakers playing as...

Re: Sorry I ever got rid of those.

Definite regrets - mostly on cymbals though.

I had a preserial# 1960's Paiste 602 ride, with bad keyhole but I bought for only $50 on ebay. It sounded spectacular, but I stupidly flipped it to...

Re: Premier Olympic Snare Drum

Olympic was the cheaper subdivision of Premier. I have read they used the same drum shells, but just cheaper hardware, lugs etc.

Re: Ginger Bakers Latest

Meh, I can't stand this guy now after reading his book. BUT I think to cut him some slack. He's not young and its good to see him still playing. I'm sure he'd rather be doing polo though. His drums...

Re: Leave Me Alone, rant 2

Sorry, but this approach may result in a punch in the face at some clubs/bars.

Re: General overall "workhorse" kit choices.

Your current kit is a mix, thats fine, just sub a smaller bass drum for your 26 and a 16 floor tom instead of a 14 ...for a 13-16-22 combo. Great sizes. Or get a 12 tom and have a 12-14-22 combo.

Re: Leave Me Alone, rant 2

I don't mean to offend either, but half of this may be sexism. My spouse gets this treatment at work at times. Some males thinking that a woman ' needs to know this/that' and of course these men...

Re: Need Help Identifying Rogers Vintage Set

Yep those are Slingerland lugs but floor tom leg mounts are not. Also floor tom has the script badge. To my reckoning the hole to hole distance of bread/butter Rogers lugs and Slingy floor tom lugs...

Re: Tuning

yes Bob Gatzen vids to start.
don't go by 'number of turns' go by pitches, so you must use your ears.
For a start (easiest) get batter and reso pitches the same, then you can vary on that....

Re: Tight Bass Head

'the 'feel' of your pedal, beater ...everything, changes with the pillow inside, which I am guessing abutted somewhat against the batter head, thus making it firmer, tighter in effect

in an open...

Re: Practice pad drum set suggestions

Most of these kind of sets never cop the hi hat *pedal*. They may have a pad for it, but no pedal or its action.
I got around that by making my own, using a real hihat pedal.

get a cheap yoga...

Re: Musicians Say streaming Music will Leave them Broke.

Writing is on the wall. Consumers basically get everything for cheap.
The only money is in touring now. You have to play live.
Question is - society is becoming less interested in going out, and...

Re: hi hat dis-assembly

with the exception of the remote hihat stand, I often wondered why of all the drum hardware, nobody has really innovated the hihat stand to break down more easily..., somehow.

some nifty widget...
