Official NAMM photographer?

Whatever this opportunity is, I'm pleased for you mate. You've always been one of the good guys and you're one Hell of a player for sure. As one door shuts, another...

Re: Independence vs learning set patterns

Herein is why learning 'licks' is a concept that I think is fundamentally flawed. At least in a Jazz context.

You should try be able to play anything in any order if you're an improvising Jazz...

Re: Great car for a drummer

That does rather baffle me. With modern diesel engines the performance in most scenarios is roughly equivalent to a petrol engine. The diesel engine of today is not the diesel engine of fifteen...

Re: Post your youth pics here.

Yeah, I was born with facial hair. The doctors were astonished. They're still astonished by just how handsome and manly I am.

Re: Post your youth pics here.

Mid-range ply Tamburo from 2005. Nothing special but it's my main driver. When I do play these days I tend to use my vintage 20" John Grey bass drum but the standard 22" bass is a lovely drum.

Re: Great car for a drummer

Again, it's the concept of a centrally-designed city or (at the very least) suburbs that have influenced American car design and vice-versa. Bill Bryson wrote an excellent piece about Des Moines and...

Re: Great car for a drummer

That's just it. What you guys see as 'tiny' cars, we see as normal. Even something like an Audi A4 estate is probably seen as 'small' whereas over here it's a decent-sized family car, with the A6...

Re: Great car for a drummer

I was thinking specifically about your situation when I wrote my post Andy. It makes sense because of the carting you do for the band and for trade shows, video shoots, etc.

It's amazing what...

Re: Great car for a drummer

Outside of the US, the rest of the World is pretty good at the game called 'Car Tetris'. The only advantage of car tetris over normal tetris is that things don't disappear when you put them into a...

Re: Post your youth pics here.

Relative 'youth' picture here. Playing a gig with my band of the time. I was probably 19 or 20. Six or seven years ago?

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

That deserves a place in Purgatory, at least. That song is only worth listening to at gone midnight when you're on to your eighth pint and trying to ironically dance with a lady several divisions...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

Absolute and utter cobblers.

'Bulk' has very little to do with how hard you can hit the kit. I've seen skinny folks whack the kit hard and make it shake, I've seen big guys play with finesse. ...

Re: Software to make drumless tracks

Nope. Not for original tracks. Guitar Pro will give you a MIDI representation of the track (and some of them with the right software instruments are very good) but it won't be the original track. ...

Re: Software to make drumless tracks

There isn't.

DAW software will let you put the two stereo tracks out of phase and then add some EQ to get some of the drums out of the mix but fundamentally there is no way of getting rid of an...

Re: First studio drum experience - Advice?

Absolutely normal. Recording gives you quite a stark and objective record of your playing that you wouldn't usually hear. It's amazing the difference between what we hear 'in our heads' and what is...

Re: Why was Antonio Sanchez' Birdman score disqualified for an Oscar?

I remember something similar happening. I don't know the details of this new case but there was one score that was disqualified on a technicality a few years ago that was clearly the best score.

Re: Can't get play back audio out of Cubase LE 5

Which OS are you running? If you're running a Mac then there is a way buried in the OS.

Why not run the output from the Tascam into your speakers? That would make far more sense.

Re: Wfd starts next thursday july 17

So, I think what would be best for everybody's sake is dropping the WFD vitriol and focussing on sharing the technique. Positive engagement.

I respect your grandfather and his accomplishments, absolutely. I don't quite see how it's relevant to this discussion but I'm sorry...

Re: Wfd starts next thursday july 17

Right, so rather than making it personal and alienating a community, why don't you get out there and use the skills you have in a positive way?

Re: Wfd starts next thursday july 17

It's not about whether or not you're married with kids.

It's about perspective. Why is this so important to you? It strikes me that you're utterly and perhaps unhealthily obsessed with this...
