Re: Gretsch Renown Maple or Yamaha Stage Custom ?

The Renown is Maple and slightly more expensive versus the Stage Custom which is birch. Both excellent sounding and build quality.

Re: Acceptable reasons for you to get up from the drums mid song?

Pretty much just for an emergency piss break. Would rather train wreck the song then wet myself:)

Re: Snare wire tension

I go with medium tension. No chock and just a slight buzz to give a fuller sound.

Re: Which set?

I've played all three and I preferred the Tama. It was the most solid and well built of the three and sounded great.

Re: Drum Shields??

I hate using shields. They make me feel isolated from the rest of the band. They do serve their purpose though.

Re: Ringo tries to teach Matt Lauer a simple rock beat...

Yes the obnoxiously common Wine Red is my choice for least favorite color.

Re: Hitting yourself while playing drums...

Ouch! I've actually smacked my fingers with my opposite hands stick. Now that smarts.

Re: Dream Theater's new drummer is MIKE MANGINI

Great drummer and great band but a pretty funky drum set up if you ask me. To much stuff up to high and out of reach for my taste.

Re: 22x14 Bass drum??

I really dig the sound of a shallow kick drum. They lack the really heavy "thud" of a deep shell but have a nice big, round warm sound that mics up well and is perfect for rock.
