Does the snare have numbers inside the shell? They should tell you something about the manufacturing year.

Re: How does Gavin do this?

Here are two Q/A's on the Letterman performance (from Gavin Harrisons thread here on DW):

Seeing as how you're not known for doing drum solos, how did you approach this? Apart from the full band...

Re: Famous drummers mixing cymbal brands

LOTS of jazz drummers do it.

For example Al Foster (Zildjian endorser), often uses a Paiste Sound Creation ride.

OK, jazz drummers aren't really famous. =)

Re: Peter Erskine is on the move... again

But he's still playing and endorsing Zildjian cymbals, right?

This endorsement is for Meinl Percussion, only.

Re: DW news

The press release in the OP is originally audio/ video only:

Someone (possibly not dw themselves) did a poor job of transcribing it.

Re: Josh Freese Drum Setup?

I know that in 2004, while on tour with A Perfect Circle, Josh fractured his right kneecap, and had to play bass drum with his left foot. There are pics from this time where he has his right leg...

Re: More amazing Simon - "most farmer's wives in Bulgaria dance in 9/8"!

I remember he had an 18" bass drum in addition to his double 24"s, in 1998. ("Another Lifetime" album and tour).

Also, the 10" closed hat and 22" China (both right side) are gone.

Re: Duncan Phillips Drum set?

I'm guessing the tom diameters are 12",14",16" (to the left) and 18". I can say for sure that he's using two small bass drums, 18" and 20", respectively.

The finish looks to be broken Glass...

Re: Need forum wisdom (fusion "standards")

Yes, that's what I've said all along:

From 0:46 (guitar solo) it's alternating bars of 4/4+6/8 and 4/4+5/8.

This is equal to alternating bars of 14/8 and 13/8. That's 27/8...

Same as your "3...

Re: Need forum wisdom (fusion "standards")

Don't know how you can hear 3 bars of 7/4 from 0:46.

Maybe someone else would care to chime in on this one?
