Re: Pretty frustrated with adjusting to an acoustic kit

This entire thread confirms why I evangelize the acoustic kit for everything. I get the "I have to play soft" thing (actually, I don't really, as evidenced in another thread), but you actually mess...

Re: Is Tama a Bad Company?

I really love the Guru stuff (I wish I could afford it - actually I could, I just haven't yet) and Brady makes really nice stuff to. I like Sonor's ply-shells - beautiful!

Re: What happened to marching snares?

What's funny about this is that bands are no longer judged in terms of "mistakes". They are judged the other way - they're built up rather than torn down. So being easier to articulate and judge is...

Re: Pretty frustrated with adjusting to an acoustic kit

Do that the other way - adjust to the acoustic and learn to play it that way.

Re: Pretty frustrated with adjusting to an acoustic kit

Hmm - this makes me feel like its still more of a technique issue, because I can pretty much take any of my pedals, and not have to change them for whatever drum or pad I may be using. You shouldn't...

Re: Pretty frustrated with adjusting to an acoustic kit

It is a technique problem and you will have to re-learn some foot technique. But you did mention the Remo UT head - is there any muffling in the bass drum now? But I'm not a fan of those stock...

Re: Is Tama a Bad Company?

Semi-disappointing. This is like the day I realized all my favorite drummers were Hal Blaine ;)

Re: Pearl VBL vs Tama Superstar Hyperdrive

Late to this one, but I just got one of those Pearl Vision bop kits and I think it's great. Compared to Sonor's Bop, and Tama's Silverstar jazz kit, and Greetsch's Catalina jazz (I've owned all...

Re: Question for the Professionals

So you mean eventually all those SoulTone guys would end up with a Sabian/Paiste/Zildjian set because as they break them, there's NOWHERE to get replacements while out on the road? No way!

Re: What happened to marching snares?

I too lament the "snarification" of marching snares. I grew up on drum corps from the late 70s and had to stop listening when they got into the 90s. When I marched in '82 with the Anaheim Kingsmen,...

Re: Is Tama a Bad Company?

Just from the little bits i got out of the unnecessarily convoluted grammar, I take it Tama people ripped off ideas calling it theirs? Or coerced information out of others to use for their own?

Re: Is Tama a Bad Company?

Man - I don't have time to fumble through some other forum to figure out this story. What the heck happened? And why was it bad?

Re: Poll: do you double bass?

I would think the musical application of those 200 bpm/16th notes would make one an expert ;)

Re: Irony?

Semantics aside, perhaps I was ;)

I suppose this does open that "signature can of worms", but there are some signature snares that I think are really good, like the Stewart Copeland, and the Elvin...

Re: Irony?

I suppose this could be the cultural appeal. It's odd that whatever musically is out there, they're chasing names like "supraphonic", "stratocaster", "telecaster", "Les Paul", or "Moog", eh?

Irony?

So general discussion - if you're an artist for a drum manufacturer, why would you settle for a signature snare drum that is reasonably priced if the manufacturer makes beautiful totally expensive...

Re: I think I might have been practicing wrong for a long time..

But for now you'll settle for getting all the horsey sounds and race car noise gigs in town, eh?

I'm a 3. I have a double pedal, but it's currently in the corner right now.

Re: How about a 22x13" ?

Nice work!

Maybe a Remo Starfire chrome mirror head for your reso. That looks great on black drums with chrome hardware ;)
