Re: Ludwig-drum refurb. svc. offered?

I'm not aware that the Ludwig factory offers this, but I'd recommend Damen Drum Co (www.damendrumco.com) which is run by Uli Salazar, who lives and breathes Ludwig drums. He also just landed the...

Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

That's my experience as well with keys, and the "good attitude" comment in particular hits home. Unlike other players who know they're good and might be a little arrogant, keyboardists tend to be the...

Re: Anti-Slip Drumsticks?

An effected stick may have a few issues:

1) Rim clicks may be softer.

2) If you play the butt end on the snare - like I do - you no longer have the grip portion in your snare hand.

The best...

When I received my Guru In-Tense 7x14" English Ash & Ovangkol snare last week, I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into it!

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - The/our results!

I have one that feels like DRY cement: the Dunnett Iron Pig, a cast iron snare!

http://www.bermudaschwartz.com/images/dunip.jpg

It would take more than Ovangkol wood hoops to tame that baby!

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - The/our results!

There's also a lot to be said for the feel of the drum when played. yes, sound should always be the priority, but a drum that also feels good under the stick makes it more of a pleasure to play, and...

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - The/our results!

Digging Jim and Ben's comments, I wonder if they know the drum is going to me?

Re: Putting band name on kick drum head, with multiple bands?

Apart from the Al gig, I've only had a couple of bands where I needed art on the kick. Way back, when I had just 2 kits and one band, I left the logo on the drum for the term I was in the band. More...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

What does his being Indian have to do with the comment he made, or anything? If it was coming from his stereotypical cultural/societal point of view, would the same comment from someone of another...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Agreed that sexism is still prevalent in most musician circles, based both on the genre, and especially the instrument played.

Is there anything unusual about a female keyboardist? No.

Female...

Re: Really, was this planned...?

I don't see a recent vintage Yamaha (or any brand) being very collectable, yet. And while Steve Gadd is highly respected, I don't see a collector's market for him the way there would be for something...

Band leaders already have access to countless players via 1) countless networking sites, 2) forums dedicated to specific players, and especially 3)personal experience.

Having a clearing house of...

Re: Carpeted or ATA Racks - Opinions, please...

You plan accordingly when ordering cases.

Or when adding new cases to an existing arsenal, you also plan accordingly.

Re: gig money for minor

Age doesn't really matter one way or the other, or I'd surely get paid more for being an almost elderly drummer! If he's good enough to do the gig, he's good enough to get equal pay for it (the...

Re: Bands ... The Franchise

The inherent problem is that the contractors face the same issues with establishments that independent bands already grapple with. Standardizing and legitimizing the 'product' won't be any more...

Re: Carpeted or ATA Racks - Opinions, please...

True, you need a workable isolation mount for the Rackspace, or put the rack inside of a nicely foamed case and let it do the protection.

There are dimpled corners that allow non-wheeled cases...

Re: Carpeted or ATA Racks - Opinions, please...

3/8" cases can certainly fly, but it is subject to damage from other freight (or your own cases) being pushed into or stacked on them. But an equal potential for damage exists from loading cases in &...

3/8 is certainly fine for local and light trucking without much abuse.

Re: Carpeted or ATA Racks - Opinions, please...

I'd say that 5/8" is more than sturdy enough for around town work!

The one I call Al is Weird Al.

I'm that Bermuda. :)

Re: Carpeted or ATA Racks - Opinions, please...

If you're flying/trucking stuff in tour mode, I'd say go with the Formica covering. The carpet will just get torn and stained, and won't look so good anymore. If carefully trucking the gear locally,...
