Re: Are you influenced by what your favorite drummers endorse?

Especially when I was younger I was probably more influenced by what my fav drummer was endorsing. As someone has already said, I believe that there are some who endorse because of their experience...

Re: Beater talk...

Funny to run into this thead. After several years of playing the OP's #1 (regular felt beater), I switched to the OP's #2 just for a change. I have to thank Mad About Drums as I had no idea that the...

Re: Song Writing- Who gets Credit?

@ bermuda- Good advise given. Yes, as much as we try to keep it a total democracy, we have already found that others wind up carrying more of the load than others when you look at things like...

Re: Song Writing- Who gets Credit?

Thank you all for your replies so far!
Fortunately, this is not a legal issue or about money (at this time). We are much too small of an outfit for that! We are just three guys that got together,...

Re: Song Writing- Who gets Credit?

@ harryconway- Yes! I agree with you 100%. We are trying to keep it a democracy but his head is getting a little large and we are getting ready to remind him of the "common courtesy" part real soon...

Song Writing- Who gets Credit?

I am in a three piece band- singer/ lead guitar, bassist and drummer (me). We work as a "democracy" where there is no defined leader and everyone has equal say in how things go with the band.

All...

Re: Disco - Live

Sadly, the bands that are getting most of the work in my area are playing disco. It gets them (the audience) on the dance floor and that's what the bar owners want to see.
The bands that are doing...

Re: Hilarious, disrespectful, yet so skilful :)

It was like the type of nightmares that wake me up in a cold sweat at night- me and my band playing a gig and it sounding like this! :)
Scary stuff!

Re: Drum sound on the new Rush album...

Just got the cd and have only listened to it through a couple of times. None of the songs really jump out at me as being "great". Funny, this morning I was listening to it and and found myself...

Re: Is this weird?

You are playing for all the right reasons. Don't feel pressured to get in a band if you are fullfilled in what you are currently doing (and it sounds as if you are).

There is nothing worse than...

Re: Got a Piccolo Snare- Now What?

Thanks for the responses! I have band practice in a little while so I'm going to set it up and see what I can do with it.
We have a reggae piece we do within a song. I thought about playing around...

Got a Piccolo Snare- Now What?

G.C. is having a big sale this weekend. What caught my eye was they had Mapex
13 x 3.5" steel piccolo snares for $39.00 (list @ $124.99)! Now, I have never considered using a piccolo, but at this...

Re: The big debate: tribute bands - yay or nay!?

I have no problem with tribute bands and would go to see one if they were good. What I don't like is the way they are promoted in my area. The radio stations will word things to make it sound like...

Re: Shuffling for Dummies...

Agree with Markdrum! I was going to suggest listening to a lot of Stevie Ray Vaughan. There are some amazing shuffles in his music and most of it is not too hard to pick up.

Re: Too early for a band?

Yes! Start playing with others as soon as possible! You'll be amazed at how quickly your skills will increase.

I think you are getting too caught up in the word "band". Do this- get together with...

Re: Handheld Recorders

I bought an H1 a few months ago. They run just under a $100.00 bucks. Once I got used to placement and settings, I have gotten some nice recordings of my band. Good little recorder for the money.

Re: newbie in a band

When learning a new song just stick with getting the basic beat of the song down. Once that is steady, incorporate the appropriate fills for the song. As Alparrott said, knowing the song structure...

Re: Earning your gear?

Once I got to a point in my playing where I proved (to myself) that I was committed to the instrument and had the passion to keep up with it, I bought myself a nice kit. Now, this is not a "pro kit"....

Re: Mapex Saturn Delamination ?? WTF??

That is a real bummer! Just out of couriousity, have these drums been exposed to rapid temparature changes or moisture? Seems strange that it would happen to multiple drums from the same kit.
