Re: Ludwig Centennial Zep kit information

Going off what Steve said, I bought a set in large Zep-esque sizes and I think it was one heck of a smart purchase. All maple shells, full size quality lugs, good edges and finishes... I really think...

Re: 11 Legendary & Most Used Drum Breaks (aka samples from old funk/soul records used in hip-hop)

Awesome video! Also, it's one of the first where the breaks are played correctly :).

Re: new guy needs advice on drum to engrave

Almost all of the engraving in the market is done by one guy by the name of John Aldridge. I ran into him once... super, super nice guy! Check out this -...

Re: The Sound of The Metronome is Disappearing

Can we please sticky the OP's first post in this thread, just so every time someone asks how to improve their internal rhythm, we can show that someone that the answer is truly as simple as...

Re: Best Bonham Snare Tuning Method

I'm fully convinced that everything envied about Bonham's sound is mostly due to room sound/ audio engineering, big sticks, and technique. He had a lot of tunings and cymbals, but all sounded like...

Re: Let battle commence :)

I'm excited to hear one of your top-notch recordings of HUGE sounding drums in HUGE sizes. Off to buy 4000 watt dual subwoofer... lol. Glad you're excited, and I'm happy to share it!

Re: fibes drums?

Last time I talked to Tommy (early December '13), he has a new factory/warehouse, and is working on getting the building up to code and through all inspections, which the city seems to be making very...

Re: Do you play a consistent bass drum pattern?

I've never really payed much attention to it. I just work out a groove in my head and just try to keep that feeling. Listening to recordings for practice/jam sessions/shows, I'm actually quite...

Re: Best online place to buy gear

Musician's Friend sucks from personal experience. Amazon is horribly organized. Having visited Memphis Drum Shop myself, and seeing how useless the employees were, I will never buy from them.

Re: Gadd ... playing Evans?

Looking with my eyes, it looks like paper towel under the tape, you can see a bit covering the Evans logo. It makes sense, because knowing that 4 Moongels come in a pack, and seeing what looks like...

Re: How to stop customers from pawing cymbals?

I'm on the same page, just trying to help the OP. Fingerprints are natural and don't hurt anything. When I cymbal shop, I touch, paw, spin, bend, play, and do whatever else I need. If I can't, I...

Re: How to stop customers from pawing cymbals?

Another option would be to buy a box of cotton gloves and ask customers to wear one or two when in the cymbal area. Then you just clean the dirty ones at night.

Re: Proof other musicians don't care how drums sound.

My experience with borrowing kits for other bands/gigs has always been an interesting one... lots of nice kits... but with really old, worn, dented heads, many times with bottom heads missing, lugs...

Re: Erroneously entitled: "Nobody Cares"

I care when the cheap Strat goes out of tune in 10 minutes and I have to listen to crappy tuning for a whole set. :)
Guitarists suck sometimes.

Re: Hanging a gong on the wall

Will you be playing it or is it just for show? The closest you can get away with to the wall is what I'd do.

Re: If you were just starting to learn how to play today..

Metronome, metronome, metronome!
Get a teacher to help with a practice routine, and technique. Work on those beyond what you would ever deem necessary, then go back to a teacher to check up on...

Re: Most egotistical genre ;)

Most solos don't seem egotistical when you can hear how they really follow the form of the parent song and the feel thereof, but when some soloists take any 'solo section' to equal their chance to...

Howdy, Chris. I'm going to start off by giving some general guidelines that I share with most drummers looking to buy a whole kit at once.
There is no reason to not consider a set of used drums, for...
