Going to Istanbul!

Greetings all. So, around Easter, I'll be heading to Istanbul for around three days (and the historical site of Ephesus for two, but that's another story). Because of my fairly limited time, I have...

Re: Australian Artisan drum makers.... how can you tell whos the "real deal"

I haven't yet invested in any Aussie drum makers' products, but I have met Jim Moody of Moody Drums, and I can tell you that he is an absolute gentleman who takes great pride in his craftsmanship,...

Re: Funky snare - Supralite vs Acrolite

Snap up an Acro! You can get them here in Aus too depending on where you are - and $240 should just about see you one on the bay.

Here's Steve Jordan using one that's fairly cranked:...

Re: Recommendations on Small Snare

Seconded on the Musashi. I use one as my main snare at the moment - throw a two-ply head on it and it can do anything!

Re: Drum store tourism

I suspect it's a pilgrimage of sorts for forum members here to do such things.

When I visited the States a couple of years ago, I made the point of going out of my way to visit both Hollywood Pro...

Re: Dual ride positioning

Dennis, I've always wondered - do you find it strange having rides up that high, or are you just used to it? I tried it once and my arms tired out very quickly; it felt like I wasn't using my energy...

Re: Dual ride positioning

Two rides on the right, and you can even keep them at roughly the same height! Of course, this is dependent on your setup; if you're not flying the ride half off the kick then you will probably need...

Re: Snare Buzz Caused By Bass Guitar

This is gonna come across as hugely obvious and probably a little condescending, so I apologise - but have you considered just flipping your strainer to the 'off' position when cross-sticking? That...

Re: Wellington Custom Built Drums

Those look identical to Pearl's wood-fibreglass kits. Lugs, tom arms, everything... I'm looking at my own wood-fibreglass and they are the same bar the wrap.

Re: Ludwig New Supra-Lite Snare Drums

I'd like to know why they STILL can't fix the lug splay problem. If you have a look at the pic above, it's rather obvious...

Re: This guy gets an "A" for performance :)

Guys, just remember, the dude is 72. When you're 72 with a full head of white hair, let's see you try and pull off the same thing without everyone on the interwebs commenting on your lack of groove!

Re: When did you know drums were "it" for you? When did they become your passion?

I started playing drums at 13, didn't really catch on and I left it there.

Hearing Larry Mullen Jr of U2's beautiful simplicity and rock-solid groove when I first saw them live at age 18 got me...

Re: About these 13" snare drums...

13" snares with a depth of more than 6" are the absolute bomb. I'm currently playing a 13 x 7 Black Magic, and the backbeat is exactly as you've described - you can really dig in and feel it happen,...

Re: Trad. grip players check in ....

"Whenever I see you playing, you just look like you know what you're doing / look like a pro cause of how you hold the sticks!"

Anyone else get this? I seem to all the time... if only my skills...

Re: Trad. grip players check in ....

I play both, snare is always dead flat... as has been mentioned, I find grooving more fun with trad, and fills easier with matched.

Re: The Ludwig Acrolite

Very nice! Although, isn't there another name for a 6.5 x 14, 10 lug aluminium Ludwig drum..?

*cough* Supraphonic *cough*

Just kidding, of course, and glad to see that Malaysia's getting some...

Re: What size is your main snare? Why?

Currently, a 13 x 7 Black Magic for rock - I enjoy having a little more room between the legs especially with an active left foot, plus the pop of the slightly smaller diameter combined with the...

Re: Is it late for me? (Drum starter)

Never too late! I picked up the drums seriously at 18 (I'd dabbled a bit before that, but got sick of it) and five years later... well, I'm in a band, playing regularly, posting here and loving it! ...

Re: ID THIS PEARL VINTAGE KIT

Out of sheer curiosity, is that hole between the badge and the tom mount for an internal mic?
