This is my new 6x14 stave padauk shell snare drum with black nickel plating and die cast hoops:
I went with a Trick single-step throw, 30 strand Canopus wires and Gretsch-style lugs šŸ™‚
Heads of choice are an Aquarian Texture Coated Reverse Dot over Classic Clear Snare Side

I've always wanted to try a Padauk snare. The wood grain is stunning! Did you buy the stave shell or build it yourself?

How does it sound?

Entirely hand-built my friend! šŸ˜ƒ
Sounds pretty good so far, have it tuned about medium with a little tape on top! Still a fresh head so itā€™s getting dialed in but in a few weeks when itā€™s broken in it should sound even better!

Enjoy! May it give you years of musical joy. Peace and goodwill.

Very nice build. I have an affinity for padauk shells.

I like the dark hardware with that color/tone of wood. Nice! šŸ’Ŗ

Thanks all! Was a fun project for sure šŸ¤˜
The more I play it, the more it sounds like an old Stop Sign Badge Gretsch!
think itā€™s the cast hoops doing their magic! šŸ˜
Just has that extremely woody sound to me and sounds awesome!
