Hey guys,
I was just wondering if there's any equivalent drumstick of the Travis Barker's signature series.

I like his stick quite a bit but not the whole signature or color gimmick that it comes along with it. The stick also wears out quite fast and not to mention the horrible paint stain it gets on the cymbal.

So my question is if there's another round tip and similar size and weight drumstick out there that I could check out as well.

Okay my cymbals are cracked so I'm looking for some replacements. I have around 300 USD. So I was considering the some of the following.

Sabian B8's

Or

Pastie PST 5

I'm going to guitar center tomorrow to sound test, but I was just wondering what you guys thought. I play mostly rock but occasionally like to mix it up. If you have anything else post it.

iv been playing drums for close to 8 years now. never had a lesson, figured most of it out on my own or through observation.

recently, something has been goin on with my hands and im not sure whats causing it!
this happens especially when playing shows now, my hands (cramp?) inbetween my thumb and index finger. usually happens to my left hand first. (right handed)
its not necessarily painful, it just completely kills my stroke, i cant keep my grip which only makes it worse!

iv tried figuring out wat causes this, dehydration? i drank more water.
improper stretching/warming up? i warm up and stretch before each show.
too tense when im playing? i TRY and loosen up, still doesnt work.
it has to be the way im playing or its all in my mind and i just psych myself out on stage.
iv been playing shows for awhile and this NEVER used to happen.

my playing style isnt too demanding, im in two bands, i play pop punk and metal.
no insane blast beats (tho i do blast beat at times) and no insane double bass.
i use vic firth 3A sticks. practice on a pad whenever i can.
i just dont get it.

i use my fingers a lot in my strokes (if that helps)
was curious if that may be the problem so i tried using them less.

im not sure what to ask of you guys besides has anyone had this happen to them?
and if so how did you solve it? its really frustrating, im better than this and it just keeps holding me back.

thanks again guys, any questions/advice are welcome!

For a few years now, I have devoted some of my practice time to open-handed playing. I've not been doing this because I desire to play open-handed, but primarily as a way to develop my left hand (which has worked quite well). Also, I wanted to be able to switch over if I want to play a pattern where open-handed would be advantageous, such as playing the hats and toms together. I've gotten a lot better at it, but I'm still nowhere as good at playing this way as I am with cross-sticking.

So, I was wondering how many of you open-handed players started out this way from the beginning, and how many are "converts." I imagine it would be kind of hard to convert after playing cross-stick for a long time, but I'm sure it has been done. I wanted to make a poll, but I don't see an option to do so (??). So, I will just await responses. Thanks.

My daughter is 16 and rented The Final Riot Paramore DVD from Net Flix. She has the CDs so I've listen to them numerous times.

The DVD friggin rocks! The band is super tight and powerful. The musicianship is superb!

I don't like all of their songs, but the performance blew me away.

The drummer rocks. He's playing a Truth kit with wood hoops. I didn't like his slappy snare sound, but that guy can play drums.

If you like this band check out the DVD.

Hey everybody

I'm going to buy my first acoustic drumset (I play on a Roland TD-9kx now) and have been looking since August this year. Though I have not looked at ebay, only on "non-auction" sites. I'm looking for that really nice deal. Have not found very much and I feel I can't hold myself any longer haha

So I found this dealsome days ago.

It's in swedish so I'll translate: it's sabian Xs20 cymbals and a ready to play-kit. Although it only says "Sabian cymbals" in the description so I called him to ask him what kind of serie it was. He said he didn't know and "wasn't good on that stuff". He didn't know what serie it was on drums or the heads. But it turned out to be: EX and Pearl protone.

He want's $700 for everything. But he clearly doesn't know what it's worth since he doesn't know exactly what he have. So... what it's worth? It's bought in 2007 and I don't know the shape of it or the sizes, will check it tomorrow and update this thread.

I play all kinds of music (studying at a music high school; drums) but if I choose myself I play extreme metal / punk / rock. I'm a very serious drummer (though only 17) and are searching for a kit I can have on gigs, practice at home and maybe even record.

From what I have heard Pearl Export is the worlds most sold drumkits and very praised. But is it still worth the money? And what is worth? Would it be wise to buy this kit and buy some new nice heads and tune them well or is it better to buy like a Tama Superstar or someother "semi-expensive"-kit? I prefer second hand kits.

The cymbals is nice from what I have heard, that's why I assume I can't go to low in price hehe.

Gibraltar Customer Support is Non-Existent

I just wanted to put out a warning to other drummers out there. I own a fair amount of Gibraltar hardware, and I've been pretty satisfied with it. However, I've come to discover that when something does go wrong, their customer support is terrible.

For example, I lost the middle tier from one of my cymbal stands. Fortunately, Gibraltar actually includes a diagram with their hardware that lists all the individual parts and part numbers, so I went to my local music store to order the replacement part. They got back to me and said Gibraltar wouldn't replace the part unless it was a warranty claim. Mind you, I wasn't looking for a free replacement. I wanted to buy a new part, but was denied. So now I have a cymbal stand without a middle tier. What, I have to buy a whole new stand now? Or search high and low for a part that will work with it?

Secondly, I have emailed Gibraltar customer support no less than three times about various issues. Not once did I get any response from them.

Anyway, I just wanted to make other drummers aware of this situation in case they are considering any Gibraltar purchases. They do make pretty good gear, but it seems their relationship with you ends at the point of sale.

Today is actually a very important day in musical history. Forty years ago today, James Br own and his band went into King Records studios in Cincinnati, Ohio to record the song "Funky Drummer," featuring the inimitable Clyde Stubblefield on drums. The drum break that he played on that song remains one of the most-sampled in the world. Everyone from Madonna to Public Enemy to Sublime has gotten their hands on it!
So today, take a cue from JB himself and "Give the drummer some!" Play it loud and play it proud!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7T4v2l-PIg
